The Vango Sunlight converts from a full awning into an open sun canopy by removing its front door and side panels. This dual-purpose setup suits low-height campervans and connects via twin kador strips that slide into your vehicle's awning rail or canopy cassette channel. The Sentinel Active 75D polyester fabric keeps weight down whilst maintaining tear resistance, and the straightforward poled frame goes up in around 15 minutes once you've done it a couple of times.

You'll find SkyTrack II channels running inside the roof, which lets you hang LED strips, storage pockets or hooks wherever you need them without drilling or using suction cups that fall off. Adjustable pegging points compensate for sloped pitches, and the orange-marked corner pegs show you which ones to tension first. Vehicle attachment covers most scenarios: 6mm kador beading comes pre-attached, 8-metre over-vehicle straps loop over the roof for vans without rails, roof bar tabs clip onto cross bars, and there's a sleeve for pole-and-clamp systems.

The packed size sits around 90cm long, which fits across most car boots or in a garage corner. Worth noting that this awning's designed for touring rather than seasonal pitches, so if you're planning to leave it up for months at a caravan storage site, the UV exposure will degrade the fabric faster than weekend trips would. Additions like side panels and front extensions are available separately if you want to expand the covered area, and the oversized carry bag gives you a bit more room when you're packing up in a rush.

Frequently Asked Questions

What height campervans does the Vango Sunlight fit?
The Vango Sunlight is specifically designed for low-height campervans, typically those under 2.5 metres tall. The twin kador attachment system connects to standard awning rails found on most factory conversions and panel vans with leisure fitments. If your campervan has a wind-out canopy cassette, the kador beading slides into the cassette's channel to create a sealed connection.
How do I convert the Sunlight from an awning to a sun canopy?
Remove the front door panel and detach the side walls from the frame. The roof section remains attached to your vehicle via the kador strips, creating an open shelter that blocks overhead sun whilst allowing airflow from all sides. The removed panels pack into the carry bag separately. You'll still need to peg out the front corners to maintain tension on the canopy roof.
What is the SkyTrack II system on the Vango Sunlight?
SkyTrack II consists of flexible channels sewn into the awning's interior roof that accept slide-in attachments. You can position LED light strips, hanging organisers, coat hooks or lanterns anywhere along these tracks without fixed mounting points. The system takes accessories with standard SkyTrack-compatible fittings, which slide in from the track ends and lock into position where you need them.
Can I attach the Sunlight if my campervan doesn't have an awning rail?
Yes, the Sunlight includes 8-metre over-vehicle straps that loop over your campervan roof and secure to the awning's attachment points. For vehicles with roof bars, there are dedicated tabs that clip onto cross bars. There's also a sleeve that accepts pole-and-clamp systems, which grip the gutter or roof edge. These alternative methods work on panel vans, day vans and vehicles where drilling for an awning rail isn't practical.
What are the adjustable pegging points for?
These pegging points have sliding adjusters along webbing straps that let you compensate for uneven ground. If one corner sits higher than another due to a sloped pitch, you can shorten or lengthen each strap to tension the awning properly without lifting one side off the ground. The orange-marked pegs indicate which corners to secure first to establish the correct awning shape before tensioning the remaining points.
Is the Sentinel Active 75D fabric waterproof?
Sentinel Active 75D polyester carries a hydrostatic head rating that makes it waterproof for typical rain showers during touring trips. The 75-denier thread count provides sufficient tear resistance whilst keeping pack weight manageable. This fabric specification balances weather protection with portability for awnings that get pitched and packed multiple times during a holiday rather than staying erected for extended periods.
What additions are available for the Vango Sunlight?
Vango produces compatible side panels, front extensions and inner tents that attach to the Sunlight's frame to expand the covered area or add sleeping space. These additions connect via zipped panels and matching pole sleeves. Check the specific additions table for the Sunlight model to confirm compatible accessories, as awning additions are model-specific and won't necessarily fit other Vango awning ranges.
How long does the Vango Sunlight take to pitch?
First-time pitching typically takes 20 to 25 minutes once you've familiarised yourself with which poles go where. After a few setups, this drops to around 15 minutes for a solo pitch or 10 minutes with two people. The poled structure uses colour-coded sleeves and pins that match pole sections to specific frame positions. Threading the kador into your awning rail takes the most time initially, but you'll develop a technique that speeds this up after the first couple of attempts.
