I am thinking of putting a solar panel on the roof of my caravan. Can I just plug into the 12 v system with a push in attachment to charge the battery or do I need dedicated wiring?

If you want it to work efficiently you will need to wire it through a solar regulator directly to the battery. It would be best to do this in about 6mm² wire so you don’t loose any ampage in the wire run. If the batteries are a long way from the solar panel it would be best to run even thicker wire.
