Caravan & motorhome technical questions

Question

My caravan is an Elddis Vogue. When I last towed it, on stopping and pulling away I could hear a clunk from the hitch. I subsequently found out it had no grease and I ended up pumping a whole can in. This seemed to improve the damper, which has resistance when I push it in, but very little when I pull it back out. Do I need to replace my damper? Is this an easy job?

Answer

Yes you will need to replace the damper. On the Elddis caravans it is normally a Knott hitch and you will need damper 120511.
The hitch has to be taken off to remove the old one and you need to undo the nut from the damper shaft so that you can withdraw the damper from the front. You may need assistance when fitting the new damper as you need to compress the damper whilst inserting the vertical bolt.
