Question

The gas on my cooker keeps going off, if I turn it off for 30 sec it comes back to full light then goes low again, could this be the gas regulator as the gas bottle is 3/4 full

Answer

The best way to check the operation of a gas regulator is to firstly, ensure you have plenty of gas in the cylinder, turn on one hob burner one at a time, as you turn on additional hob burners if the flame on the ones already ignited reduces in size then there is a problem with the gas supply to the appliance, this would point to a regulator problem. In your case I would suggest the regulator is the problem due to the regulator oiling up There is an ongoing problem with regulators oiling up, this is apparently due to the rubber in the high pressure pig tail between the cylinder and the regulator producing a greasy substance which is blocking the regulators. The cure for this is to replace the rubber pig tail with a stainless steel one, these are considerably more expensive but the expiry date for the safe use of the hose is much longer so in the long run they are no more expensive I have included a link below for these hoses Propane hose Link Butane hose Link
