How does a separation toilet work in a motorhome?
A separation toilet uses a specially designed bowl to direct urine towards the front and solid waste towards the rear, keeping them completely separate. The S260CS features a 467mm seat height, recycled plastic construction for both tank and bucket, and a leak-free connection system for the urine tank. Urine from a separation toilet is sterile when fresh and can be diluted with water and disposed of down any standard toilet, drain, or onto soil away from water sources. Solid waste can be double-bagged in biodegradable liners and disposed of in general waste bins, composted at home if properly managed, or emptied at campsite facilities. You're not restricted to chemical disposal points like traditional cassette toilets.
Does the Thetford S260CS need chemicals?
No, the S260CS separation toilet doesn't require any chemical treatments because urine and solid waste remain separated and don't mix with water. The separation principle reduces odours naturally. For additional odour control, you can add a small amount of cat litter or wood shavings to the solid waste bucket, or fit the optional Thetford ventilation kit which actively extracts odours.
Can you retrofit a Thetford separation toilet to an existing C260?
Yes, Thetford produces the SK260 separation kit specifically designed to convert existing C260 or C220 cassette toilets into separation toilets. This retrofit option lets you keep your current installation and simply swap out components, making it a cost-effective way to switch from a water-flush cassette system to a waterless separation system without major modifications to your vehicle.
