The Waeco WAC 2600 is a roof-mounted air conditioner rated at 2600 W of cooling, built for insulated motorhomes, caravans and panel van conversions up to 8 metres long. It's aimed at owners of larger coachbuilts, A-class layouts and long-wheelbase van conversions, where interior volume runs higher and the cooling load along with it. The rooftop housing is white and aerodynamically shaped, keeping drag and wind noise down on the motorway. The WAC ADBL air distribution box is supplied with it, moving cooled air forward and back through swivelling outlets, with the remote setting temperature and blower speed from your seat.

How does the Waeco WAC 2600 compare with the WAC 2200?

The WAC 2600 lifts cooling output to 2600 W and covers insulated vehicles up to 8 metres, against 2200 W and 7 metres for the WAC 2200. It draws 6 A or less on a 6 A fuse and weighs 30 kg. Both share the same 400 x 400 mm cut-out and 805 x 722 x 230 mm rooftop unit.

Draw sits at 6 A or below on a 220 to 240 V, 50 Hz supply, with a 6 A fuse specified, and the compressor eases into life rather than pulling a heavy surge at switch-on. A gentle start keeps the unit workable on pitches running low fuse protection. The supplied air distribution box measures 579 mm front to back by 518 mm across and stands 54 mm high, so headroom stays intact, and the outlets swivel under fingertip pressure. Alongside cooling you get a dehumidify setting for damp mornings, a ventilation setting for moving air with the compressor off, an automatic mode holding your chosen temperature, and a sleep function for overnight running. The dust filter lifts out of the distribution box for washing.

Fitting works with roof thicknesses from 25 mm to 60 mm, with duct sections stacked to match: one section for 25 to 35 mm, two for 35 to 45 mm, three for 45 to 55 mm and four for 55 to 60 mm. Waeco asks for a flat mounting area within 10 degrees of horizontal, centred between two longitudinal roof supports, with at least 50 mm of clearance around the unit and 150 mm where nearby roof fittings stand above 60 mm tall. The 400 x 400 mm cut-out matches the standard rooflight aperture used across the industry, so many installations reuse an existing opening. The rooftop unit weighs 30 kg, so work it into your payload figure and ask your vehicle manufacturer to confirm the roof structure suits the static and travelling loads. Waeco rates efficient operation between -2°C and 52°C ambient, and the WAC 2600 carries a 2 year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size motorhome or caravan does the Waeco WAC 2600 suit?
Waeco rates the WAC 2600 for insulated motorhomes, caravans and panel vans up to 8 metres in length. The installation manual also specifies a vehicle floor area above 4 square metres. Cooling output is 2600 W, roughly 8,900 BTU per hour, which suits larger coachbuilts, A-class motorhomes, twin-axle caravans and long-wheelbase panel van conversions. Shorter vehicles up to 7 metres are covered by the WAC 2200.
What is the difference between the Waeco WAC 2600 and the WAC 2200?
The WAC 2600 raises cooling output to 2600 W and extends the recommended vehicle length to 8 metres, against 2200 W and 7 metres for the WAC 2200. Draw rises to 6 A or less with a 6 A fuse, compared with 4.5 A or less and a 5 A fuse. Rooftop weight goes from 28 kg to 30 kg. Both units share the same 400 x 400 mm roof cut-out, the same 805 x 722 x 230 mm rooftop housing and the same WAC ADBL air distribution box.
Will the Waeco WAC 2600 run on a campsite hook-up?
Waeco specifies a draw of 6 A or less at 220 to 240 V with a 6 A fuse, so a 10 A or 16 A pitch supply leaves comfortable headroom for a kettle or fridge running alongside it. A soft start-up brings the compressor up gently instead of pulling a heavy surge, which suits sites running low fuse protection. Check the pitch rating when booking across France, Spain and Italy, where 6 A supplies are common.
Does the Waeco WAC 2600 fit an existing 400 x 400 mm rooflight aperture?
Yes. Waeco built the WAC 2600 around a 400 x 400 mm roof cut-out, the standard rooflight aperture used across the motorhome and caravan industry, so an existing opening of the same size takes the unit with no extra cutting. Roof thickness needs to fall between 25 mm and 60 mm, with duct sections stacked to suit: one for 25 to 35 mm, two for 35 to 45 mm, three for 45 to 55 mm and four for 55 to 60 mm. The mounting area sits within 10 degrees of horizontal, centred between two longitudinal roof supports.
Is the air distribution box supplied with the Waeco WAC 2600?
Yes. This package pairs the WAC 2600 rooftop unit, SKU 9630002129, with the WAC ADBL air distribution box, SKU 9630002131, so both halves of the installation arrive together. The WAC ADBL measures 579 mm front to back, 518 mm across and 54 mm high, weighs 3.5 kg, and carries a removable dust filter for cleaning. The unit comes with a 2 year warranty.
Does the Waeco WAC 2600 heat as well as cool?
The WAC 2600 is built as a dedicated cooling unit, giving 2600 W of cooling alongside dehumidify, ventilation, automatic and sleep settings. For heating from the same rooftop position, the WAC 2600I matches the 2600 W cooling output and adds 2300 W of heating through inverter compressor and heat pump technology.
How much weight does the Waeco WAC 2600 add to the roof?
The rooftop unit weighs 30 kg. Adding the WAC ADBL air distribution box at 3.5 kg brings the installed total to 33.5 kg. Work this into your payload allowance, and ask your vehicle manufacturer to confirm the roof structure suits the static weight plus the loads generated while driving. Waeco recommends siting the unit centrally between two longitudinal roof supports, and advises checking with the manufacturer about any change to the recorded vehicle height.
Will the Waeco WAC 2600 run from a leisure battery and inverter?
The WAC 2600 takes a 220 to 240 V, 50 Hz supply, so mains hook-up powers it directly. Off-grid running works through a pure sine wave inverter sized for the compressor load, fed by a lithium leisure battery bank with solar or DC-DC charging behind it. Owners running rooftop air conditioning away from hook-up commonly build around 200 Ah or more of lithium capacity, with inverter output matched by an installer to the rest of the system.
