Have used Fabsil on tents etc for years, now I've used it on my car soft top. It's given great water repellency, the rain just runs straight off!
It's easy to apply with a brush or spray bottle, just make sure you take notice of the safety warnings.

Good Product
by Franka (27 Aug 2019)
(4/5)
Bought it to waterproof gazebo canopy, applied it using a garden sprayer and it worked a treat, as demonstrated when it rained a few days later and the slabs underneath stayed perfectly dry. I was surprised to read previous reviews saying that the liquid was difficult to pour- until I tried to pour it, using a funnel, and ended up with a couple of waterproofed patio slabs from the spillage. There was enough in the tin to cover a 3m x 3m gazebo cover, three jackets and the remainder should be enough for the campervan awning.
Easy To Use. Just Paint.

We have a swinging chair with a hood. I painted it with this proofer and it seems ok. Just paint it on , it dries quickly, and works. Doesn’t discolour the fabric.

Don't Bother Buying A Cheeper Brand. Perfect For Cotton Canvas!
by A.a.j (30 Jun 2019)
(5/5)
We own a medieval style cotton canvas bell tent (sounds random, I know). I bought and used another brand of waterproofing and then bought this smaller can of fabsil last minute as I'd missed a few spots and it was available on Prime.
It rained the first time we put up the tent and water POURED in where I used the first brand of waterproofing (which was a nightmare as we has a stall under the awning at the front!). However, where I'd sprayed the fabsil the water ran straight off and it felt dry on the inside of the tent. You could see very clearly wher I sprayed the first brand and where I sprayed the fabsil. I want straight back onto amazon and bought 2 5L tins of it.
Don't bother buying a cheaper brand, it's not worth it. Buy this.
Also bear in mind that these cans pour terribly and it tends to run all down the side of the tin so it's best to use a funnel and pour over the sink.

Excellent Waterproofing On My Audi Soft Top Convertible
by Amazon Customer (10 Jan 2019)
(5/5)
I used Fabsil to waterproof my Audi soft top convertible and it's been holding off the water really well. I wasn't sure if it was gonna hold up in frosty conditions but so far (a month into frosty weather) it's working well and when the frost melts the water just beads on the top. I used a paint brush to apply a generous layer after giving the soft top a good clean. Just make sure that the fabric is completely dry before application otherwise the product will not work well.
The only thing I didn't like is the tin can and the lid. You waste quite a bit of product while pouring it out the can as it seeps from the side. The lid/cap is flimsy, difficult to screw back on and is not completely air tight which results in droplets seeping out the side of the cap and evaporation with time.

To Coin A Phrase.....
by Pete G. (25 May 2017)

It does what it said on the tin. I used this on my wife's soft top car. It brushes on really easy and the the following morning I went out and sprayed water on in the roof and the water literally danced off. Not sure how long it will stay this water replenant but initial impression is very good. I also brushed on to one of my older water proof jackets and had the same effect with no colour problems.
Good For Cabriolets
by Mr B Stirling (09 May 2017)
(5/5)
Always good Fabsil is. I use it on my car fabric roof. I have to apply a fair amount. (A full tin) in one setting but it does bead the water for the full winter/autumn months. I guess I use a whole cab because the weave on the roof is wider than a tent

Waterproofs Canvas Well.
by Amazon Customer (23 Jan 2017)
(5/5)
Used it on our trailer tents canvas that kept leaking. Tried reviving the canvas by all the usual methods but it just wouldn't waterproof itself. I was reluctant to use this as once you treat canvas with fabsil there is no going back.
After treating it it's fully waterproof and the water beads up.
Be warned you will use a lot of the product, we used the whole can and only did the sleeping area of our trailer tent.
It's also very smelly with a chemical odour so you may want to do the treatment before you use the tent.
Also clean the tent fabric first with soap suds or you will seal in the dirt with the fabsil.

Leaking Shade Sail
by Peter A. (29 Jul 2016)
(5/5)
We bought a new but cheap shade sail which proved not to be waterproof, it was then replaced by the vendor and the replacement also was not waterproof. As we now had two we decided we could afford to experiment and modified one and used FABSIL to waterproof it properly. We now have a garden shade we can shelter under in both sun and rain. One small problem was that we had to use a magnifying glass to read the instructions

Keep Dry Out The Sun
by Mad Rat (13 May 2016)
(5/5)
Excellent product.
Being used on standard heavy-duty canvas tents to extend their life by protecting against UV and water ingress.
I've tried to paint on and end up wasting more than I use. So am now using a 5ltr pump sprayer to apply it.
The run-off being caught in a tray; then strained to remove any debris and reused. Coverage is enough for 3x 12foot square marquee tops and sides and numerous small items; boots, shoes, coats & hiking gear. An invaluable product. I have also used this on my modern 4-man & 8-man tents. It works better if it is left on to dry naturally rather than worked in with a brush.

We used it on our 4 person tent to make it waterproof. Despite heavy rain (6 times) and thunderstorm, the tent survived dry at the inside. Other tents were soaked.
The quickest way to waterproof tent was to assemble it in the garden, and than spray it on the outside on the whole surface.
Also did the same on waterproof jackets.
We ordered 2.5l, which arrived as a metal can. Quick delivery as we ordered Prime delivery.
Unfortunately, this is now pretty much gone so we need to ordered another 2.5l to clean the tent again before folding in to the box until next time.

Both Horses Bone Dry So Am Very Pleased With This Product As It Saved A Bit On ...
by Melly (13 Jul 2015)
(5/5)
The product arrived promptly and was well packaged.you have the option of painting or spraying the product on to fabric. We chose spray option as we were reproofing Horse turn out rugs. We just transferred some of the liquid into a pourable container then into a spray bottle. We did 2 x 6"3 heavy turnout rugs with necks and 2 lightweight turn out rugs without. There was still a little left so we reproofed canvas shoes. We turned Horses out today in their lightweight rugs in persistent rain and hoped they would stay dry for riding later. They did. Both Horses bone dry so am very pleased with this product as it saved a bit on the spray cans or paying to have them done. Will buy some more soon.

I was so impressed that I bought another tin of the stuff ready for the next time the roof needs waterproofing.

Excellent stuff. Used it on boots to start but my wife had a problem with her soft-top so I applied this. Worked perfectly. I did give it a good scrub to get rid of the mold but after that the sealer went on perfectly. Did not affect ther colour in any way and might of in fact enhanced it.

Sealed The Convertible Roof On My Z3!!
by Andyamn (15 Dec 2014)
(5/5)
Had a leak in the roof of my BMW Z3, half a litre of this has taken care of it!! Only given it one coating (although was more generous around the area with the drip) & it's keeping the water out!! Moderate amounts of rain bead on the roof, heavy heavy rain does appear to soak in, but isn't making it through!! The car is exposed to the elements, as I don't garage or cover it, two months down the line & all is well!!
The liquid is actually clear, the "black" refers to the level of protection it offers, they do a "gold" as well which is apparently more geared towards convertible roofs, but I wasn't aware of it til I'd bought this!! No matter as it's doing the job!!!

Caravan Awning Waterproofing Liquid - Great Stuff
by Christiancaravanner (23 Sep 2014)
(5/5)
This stuff works! This is the third or fourth time I've used this product to renew waterproofing on my caravan awning and it does the job. However, I would recommend you are generous in calculating needs, as I have always found I use more than the coverage rate suggests.
Application instructions as stated on the tin are:
Apply to clean dry fabric with a new paintbrush or a coarse spray. To ensure a uniform finish treat all of the article and maintain a 'wet edge'. - Immediately after application rub treated fabric with a clean cloth and allow around six hours drying time. Rain and dew must not contact treated materials until the proofing has dried.
Coverage is stated as ' 1 litre of Fabsil will cover up to 18 sq metres of nylon, 7.5 sq metres of light weight or 5 sq metres of medium weight canvas '
I've always applied this on a fine, reasonably sunny, day with a gentle breeze. I've applied it with a paint brush and that may explain why I've used more than the coverage rate suggests; maybe a spray gives a finer control of the coverage? The sun and breeze may also have affected coverage.
On the other hand, there was never any need to go over it with a clean cloth - the brush spread the liquid evenly enough, and most of the roof had dried before I finished applying the liquid to other parts of the awning.
The liquid is clear. When applying it to the red and grey coloured wall panels of the awning, it was easy to see the 'wet edge' between treated and untreated areas.
The awning roof is a sandy-beige colour so it was much harder to see the 'wet edge' on that. I suggest you mentally sub-divide the area into grid squares or panels so you can keep track of where you have treated.
I recommend applying first to the most vulnerable areas of the canvas such as where roof poles come into contact with fabric, just in case you are run short of liquid.
Canvas Tent Proofer.
by Tracey J (13 Sep 2014)
(5/5)
We left an email with the company and they're response was excellent . A 2.5litre can of this product covered our large canvas tent. It was sprayed on ,rather than painted on. It was applied on a sunny day and dried quickly ,however it is very smelly and so far the smell has continued to linger for just over a week now. If you have a garage or outdoor shed to store it in, it would be idea,so as to give your tent some air. Unfortunately we have to store ours in the attic.
It was recommend to us and did the job well and we can also recommend this product for proofing canvas tents.

Excellent product, i buy the large tin as it is more economical, i have a hand plunger in which i syphon the fabsil into clean previously used antibac spray bottles, this tin will easily cover a 8 man family tent, 4 man tent, with enough left over for fleece coats, shoes
(material e.g vans, enties etc, trainers, suede boots, fabric fashion shoes etc), never had a problem with this product which i have used for over 14 years. Excellent to waterproof old waterproof wear,e.g trousers, jackets, roadside illuminous jackets, running and kayak wear, hats, gloves and back packs).

Well guys it really does what it says on the tin with great efficiency.
I have an eight year old polyester fabric tent made by a very prominent tent maker (name to be kept) who when I conntacted them for assistance for my leaking tent - it was worse than a sieve - they basically wrote it off, nothing they could suggest.
So look I looked a the Fabrisil spec and the gold ticked the boxes - and it did.
I have now got a useable weather resistant tent again.

The soft top on my MGF is quite old, probably the original from 1996. Whether it's ever been re-proofed is anyone's guess.
I gave it a couple of coats, used the whole tin. I absolutely drenched it! I did cover the seats with a plastic cover and over the last few days it has been raining, slight bit of moisture on the plastic. Got another tin coming and I'll give it another thick coat. That should do it, hopefully. It's really easy to put it on, just slap it on and it dries as if nothing has been there. There's no hint of colour so I would presume it would be fine on any colour of hood. But don't quote me on that!

Great Product
by Daniel Thomas (26 Jul 2013)
(4/5)
I've used this product a number of times to waterproof a large canvas frame tent and also smaller items. It works really well, dries quickly and its smell dissipates rapidly.
Painted on to heavy canvas I find it lasts well for years, but it does require a lot of product as heavy canvas absorbs a huge amount of it. I've marked it down one star for this as I think the coverage rates given on the item are very optimistic. As a minimum on canvas buy double what you think you will need, use the excess product if you have any to waterproof outdoor clothing/furniture or to protect fabric car seats from staining like scotchguard.

I'm Well Satified
by Colin J (22 Jul 2013)
(5/5)
It did the job quite well on my gazebo, which is some 7 or 8 years old. It was a large area & therefore a bit difficult to do a perfect job. I'm going to give it a 2nd coat: this time perhaps with a roller & with the fabric insitu on its' frame because where I laid it out on a garden table to treat the centre section there a some very minor leaks on the seams where the fabric touched the table. I'd recommend this proofer as it's easy to apply but would suggest that maybe two coats might be a better option especially on big areas & if the fabric is old like mine.

Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin

very good waterproofer. I have a medium sized tent (6 man) that I bought from Asda that has always been a little damp when it rains. it does not leak as such but the inner skin gets very damp, and I would not like to be caiught in a very heavy prolonged down pour of rain in it. So I was going to replace it, but it is very easy to put up by my self and is ideal for weekends away. So I decided to give reproofing it a go and see how it worked. the tin says to brush on the water proofing. although this is the most economical way of doing it I used a pump up garden sprayer (£9.99 from B&Q for two off 1 litre sprayers) and did it that way. Once a section of the tent had been fully covered i used a wall paper pasting brush to rub it into the fabric of the tent. after one coat there was a significant iprovement to the water proofing of the tent and the nylon fabric felt firmer and almost thicker. There is enough for two coats in the 2.5 litres tin so I gave it a second coat. the tent has a new lease of life, in fact its water tightness is far better than when it was new. its water tightness is as good as my big tent which has a water proofing hydrostatic head of double that of my medium sized one. I am going to buy another couple of tins to do my big tent. I can thourouly recomend it. a must have for all serious campers.

Waterproofing Awnings
by M. Bridge (31 Oct 2009)
(5/5)
Grangers Fabsil Waterproofer does exactly what it says it does. It is relatively simple to apply, so long as you make sure to apply it to a clean surface. If the surface is not clean the application by brush or roller just stirs the dirt about and makes it look awful. An added bonus if you are down in sunny Spain is that it has UV Protection. Follow the instructions on the tin and you will do a good job. I don't know yet how long one application will last but I anticipate a couple of years.
