This Crusader Butane pigtail connects your butane bottle directly to the fixed regulator already installed on your caravan or motorhome. The hose fitted with a standard POL fitting on the bottle end and an M20 connector that screws straight onto your caravan's bulkhead regulator. It's high-pressure LPG hose built to BS3212 standards with a non-return and excess flow valve built in, which stops gas flowing backwards and prevents loss if the connection gets damaged.

Designed for European caravans and motorhomes from 2004 onwards, this pigtail works with most automatic propane changeover valves and fits the regulators fitted as standard to modern caravans. The non-return valve means you don't lose gas between bottle changes, and the excess flow protection cuts supply instantly if there's a leak. It's equally useful on boats and smaller camper setups where space is tight and you need a direct connection from bottle to regulator.

One thing to note is this hose works with existing bulkhead regulators only. If your caravan doesn't have a regulator already fitted to the wall, you'll need to install one separately before this pigtail will work. The 45cm length means you've got limited flexibility for routing, so measure where your bottle sits relative to your regulator before ordering.

Will this butane pigtail work with my caravan?

This Crusader Butane Gas pigtail is designed for European caravans and motorhomes with bulkhead mounted regulators fitted from 2004 onwards. Your caravan must already have a fixed regulator mounted on the wall inside your gas locker. The M20 connection screws directly onto that regulator. If your caravan has an older style installation or the regulator isn't bulkhead mounted, this pigtail won't work with your setup. Check your existing setup before ordering to confirm you have an M20 threaded bulkhead regulator.

What's the difference between a non-return valve and excess flow valve?

The non-return valve (NRV) on this hose prevents gas flowing backwards from the regulator back into the bottle connection. This stops you losing gas sitting between bottle changes. The excess flow valve automatically cuts the gas supply if the hose is damaged or severed. Together they provide safety by stopping uncontrolled gas loss if something goes wrong, and they protect your gas supply when you're swapping bottles between trips.

How often should I replace the pigtail hose?

You should replace your pigtail hose every 5 years as part of gas safety maintenance on your caravan or motorhome. The rubber hose degrades over time from UV exposure, temperature changes, and the pressure cycling of gas flowing through it. Even if it looks fine on the outside, the internal structure can weaken. Most gas safety inspection certificates require evidence of pigtail replacement within that 5 year window. Date coding on the hose shows when it was manufactured so you can track when replacement is due.

Does this pigtail work with automatic propane changeover valves?

Yes, this Crusader butane pigtail is compatible with most automatic propane changeover valves. The non-return valve built into this hose works with automatic changeover systems that switch between two bottles when the main one empties. The M20 connection is standard across European caravan regulators and changeover devices, so it will screw onto the regulator connector. Just make sure your changeover valve is already fitted to your caravan before ordering this pigtail.

What does BS3212 compliance mean?

BS3212 is the British Standard for flexible hoses used in LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) systems. Hoses meeting this standard have been tested for pressure resistance, temperature durability, and safety. A BS3212 compliant hose like this Crusader pigtail has the right wall thickness, materials, and construction to safely handle the pressures in a high-pressure LPG connection between bottle and regulator. This marking on the hose gives you confidence it's been properly manufactured to UK and European safety standards.

Can I use this pigtail with 7kg or larger butane bottles?

This pigtail has a standard Pol fitting (butane nut) on the bottle end, which fits most common 4.5kg butane bottles directly. For larger bottles like 7kg ones, you'll need to purchase a separate adapter that converts the larger bottle fitting down to the standard Pol connection that this hose accepts. Adapters are readily available from caravan retailers. Once you have the right adapter fitted to your larger bottle, this pigtail will then connect normally. Always check your bottle size and fitting before ordering to ensure compatibility.
