It filters up to 8,000 litres before replacement is needed, connects to standard PET bottles or the supplied flexible bladder, and works without electricity or chemicals. The three-stage filtration is what sets this filter apart from basic straw-style options. A PP cotton pre-filter removes sand, rust, sediment and suspended solids first, protecting the ultrafiltration UF membrane behind it. The UF membrane then removes 99.99% of bacteria, protozoa and microplastics, and the activated carbon stage takes care of any remaining odours and unpleasant taste. The filter is backwashable and fully reusable, so there's no waste from single-use cartridges.
There are three ways to use it in the field. Drink directly through it as a straw from the water source, attach it to a standard PET bottle or the included flexible bladder to collect and then filter water on the move, or use the supplied 5-litre water bag to collect a full canister's worth and let gravity pull the water through the filter into a container. That last option works particularly well for van lifers who need to fill the BOXIO WASH for a day's water supply.

Is the BOXIO Water Filter safe to use on rivers and streams in the UK?
The BOXIO Water Filter is designed for use with freshwater sources such as rivers, streams and lakes. It removes 99.99% of bacteria and protozoa, which are the primary biological contaminants found in UK wild freshwater. It is not rated to remove viruses, and it does not filter dissolved agricultural chemicals, heavy metals or other chemical pollutants that are present in some UK waterways. For water from sources with known chemical contamination, additional treatment would be needed.
What is the difference between the BOXIO Water Filter and the BOXIO Water Filter System?
The BOXIO Water Filter is the standalone filter unit, which includes the filter itself and a flexible bladder bottle. The BOXIO Water Filter System adds a 5-litre water bag, which allows you to collect a larger volume of water from a source and filter it by gravity into a canister or the BOXIO WASH. The System version is the better choice for van lifers who need to fill a larger water reservoir in one go.
