The Outwell Arctic Frost 35 is a 35-litre dual-zone compressor cool box built for caravan, motorhome and campervan use, with two independently controlled compartments that hold any temperature between -20°C and +20°C. One side runs as a fridge while the other runs as a freezer, so you've got cold drinks and frozen food covered without needing two separate units. It runs from 230V mains hook-up, 12V vehicle power, or the optional Outwell Arctic Frost rechargeable battery pack for proper off-grid use.

How does the Arctic Frost 35 compare to a thermoelectric cool box for caravan use?


A compressor cool box like the Arctic Frost 35 holds a fixed temperature down to -20°C regardless of outside heat, while a thermoelectric box only cools 18-25°C below ambient and won't freeze. The 35-litre Outwell weighs 18.3 kg, draws roughly 40-45W when the compressor is cycling, and runs from 12V or 230V.

The dual-zone layout is what sets it apart from single-compartment compressor coolers in the same size bracket. Each side has its own LED display and temperature setting, and you control both via Bluetooth through the free Outwell app on iOS or Android, so you can check what's happening inside the box from inside the awning. Build-wise it's a rugged plastic shell with spring-loaded handles, large puncture-proof wheels, an extending drag handle, and a reversible lid that opens left or right or lifts off completely. The waterproof inner has a drain valve for cleaning out, there's a built-in 5V/1A USB port for charging a phone, an inside light, a bottle opener, and undervoltage protection so it won't flatten your vehicle battery. Anti-tilt protection works up to 40 degrees.

External dimensions are 60 x 43.5 x 44 cm with 37.5 litres of usable volume across both compartments, and it'll take a 125 kg load on the lid, so it doubles up as a step or seat at the campsite. The box ships with a 230V AC/DC adaptor, EU and UK mains cables, a 250 cm 12V cable with cigarette lighter and DIN plugs, two mesh baskets, a cutting board, drain plug and battery compartment blanking cover. The optional 173Wh battery pack slots inside the box and keeps a 50L Arctic Frost at 5°C for up to 20 hours at 25°C ambient, recharging automatically when the cooler is plugged into 12V or 230V, or via a 100W solar panel through the cooler's solar input. Standard 1.75-litre bottles fit upright. Owners typically use this size for long weekends, festival trips, and longer touring holidays where mains hook-up isn't a given.
