The Igloo 24L AC/DC thermoelectric cooler keeps drinks and food chilled on camping trips, caravan holidays and motorhome adventures. It runs on 12V DC from your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket or 230V AC mains at campsites and home. At 3.8 kg and measuring 40.6 × 39.6 × 29.6 cm, it fits easily in a car boot, caravan storage locker, under a motorhome table or beside a tent entrance.

Thermoelectric coolers use the Peltier effect to move heat from inside to outside through a solid-state module. There are no moving parts like compressors or refrigerant gases. The Igloo IE24 cools up to 20°C below the surrounding temperature, works quietly at campsites and caravan pitches, and switches seamlessly between 12V vehicle power and 230V mains power at leisure sites.

The 24-litre interior holds 1.5-litre bottles upright and has space for food containers and drink cans for family camping trips. The lid gasket helps retain cold air inside, whilst the bail handle makes carrying straightforward around your campsite or pitch. Thermoelectric technology means fewer components to maintain compared to compressor fridges, and the unit runs almost silently so it won't disturb peaceful camping evenings. The cooler performs best when pre-cooled indoors before your camping trip and kept out of direct sunlight at your pitch.

Dual-voltage capability means you don't need separate adapters or converters when moving between car and campsite. The built-in cable compartment keeps the 12V and 230V leads tidy when you're travelling to your caravan site or camping destination. Whilst it won't freeze items like a compressor fridge, the IE24 keeps perishables safely chilled and drinks refreshingly cold throughout warm-weather camping trips, caravan rallies, festivals and outdoor leisure activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

How cold does a thermoelectric cooler get?
Thermoelectric coolers like the Igloo IE24 cool between 18°C and 20°C below the surrounding ambient temperature. If the outside temperature at your campsite is 25°C, the cooler will maintain an internal temperature of around 5-7°C, perfect for keeping drinks refreshingly cold and food safely chilled. They are designed to keep items chilled rather than frozen, making them ideal for camping trips, caravan holidays and outdoor leisure activities. Performance is best when the cooler is kept out of direct sunlight at your pitch.
Can I run a 12V electric cooler whilst driving?
Yes, you can run a 12V thermoelectric cooler whilst driving to your campsite or caravan destination by plugging it into your vehicle's cigarette lighter or accessory socket. The cooler draws power from the vehicle's battery whilst the engine is running, keeping your provisions chilled during the journey. Once you arrive at your campsite or caravan pitch, simply switch to 230V mains power for continuous cooling throughout your stay.
What is the difference between thermoelectric and compressor coolers?
Thermoelectric coolers use the Peltier effect with solid-state modules and no moving parts apart from cooling fans, making them lighter, quieter and requiring less maintenance for camping and caravan use. They cool 18-20°C below ambient temperature, ideal for weekend camping trips and leisure activities. Compressor coolers use traditional refrigeration technology, can reach much lower temperatures including freezing, and are better suited for extended camping holidays or very hot climates. Thermoelectric units offer excellent value and portability for most camping and caravan adventures.
How do I get the best performance from my electric cool box?
Pre-cool your electric cool box by running it on mains power for a few hours before your camping trip and loading pre-chilled food and drinks. Keep the cooler in a shaded area of your campsite or caravan awning, out of direct sunlight. Minimise opening the lid to retain cold air, and position the cooler where air can circulate around the vents for efficient heat dissipation. Regular cleaning between camping trips maintains efficiency and prevents odours, ensuring optimal performance for your outdoor adventures.
Will a 24-litre cooler be big enough for a family camping trip?
A 24-litre cooler is perfect for a couple or small family on a weekend camping trip or caravan holiday. It holds approximately 30-35 standard drinks cans or several 1.5-litre bottles upright with space for food containers. For longer camping holidays or larger families, it works brilliantly as a secondary cooler for drinks whilst using a larger unit for perishable food. The compact 24-litre size also makes it ideal for day trips, picnics and festival weekends.
