Product Description

The Igloo 27L Electric Cool Box offers brilliant refrigeration for caravans, campervans, and road trips. This thermoelectric cooler operates on both 12V DC and 240V AC power connections, giving you the freedom to plug in from your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket during travel or switch to mains power when you reach your pitch. The generous 27-litre capacity holds up to three 1.5-litre bottles, providing plenty of chilled storage for a family weekend away or extended day trips exploring the countryside.

Thermoelectric coolers like the Igloo IE27 use clever Peltier effect technology to transfer heat away from the interior, cooling contents up to 20 degrees below the outside temperature. The dual-fan system circulates air efficiently around the cooling element whilst thick insulation maintains the cold throughout use. At 40cm x 47cm x 28cm and weighing just 4.2kg, this cool box fits neatly behind seats or in caravan storage compartments without taking up valuable living space in your tourer.

The handy built-in cable storage compartment in the lid keeps your power leads organised when the cooler is running or during transport between sites. The robust handle locks the lid securely closed, preventing spills and maintaining the internal temperature between stops on your journey. When connected to 240V power, the Eco mode reduces energy consumption whilst still delivering excellent cooling performance for overnight use at campsites with electric hook-up. The compact footprint and dual voltage options make this a perfect cooling solution for touring caravanners and campers who need dependable food and drink storage without the complexity or expense of absorption or compressor refrigeration systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I run the Igloo 27L cooler from my leisure battery?

Yes, the 12V connection works brilliantly with leisure batteries in caravans and campervans. Thermoelectric coolers draw continuous power to maintain cooling, so you'll want to monitor your battery level if running off-grid. When you have access to electric hook-up at your campsite, switching to the 240V connection with Eco mode activated reduces the drain on your leisure battery and provides more efficient cooling for longer stays on your pitch.

What does cooling 20 degrees below ambient temperature mean?

The Igloo 27L cools relative to the outside air temperature rather than to a fixed temperature like a compressor fridge. If the ambient temperature is 25°C, the interior will reach approximately 5°C, keeping your drinks perfectly chilled. On hotter days at 30°C, the interior will cool to around 10°C. For best results, pre-chill your food and drinks before placing them in the cooler and position the unit in a shaded area at your pitch with good ventilation around the cooling fan.

How much power does the Igloo thermoelectric cool box consume?

Thermoelectric coolers require continuous power to maintain cooling and typically draw between 40-60 watts depending on ambient conditions. The handy Eco mode on 240V operation reduces power consumption whilst maintaining excellent cooling performance for most camping scenarios. When running from 12V on a leisure battery, expect the cooler to draw approximately 4-5 amps per hour, so you'll need sufficient battery capacity or solar charging for extended off-grid adventures.

Do I need to use ice packs with the Igloo 27L electric cool box?

Ice packs are not required but they improve cooling efficiency brilliantly, especially when you first load the cooler or during travel to your campsite. Adding frozen ice packs helps the thermoelectric system reach the desired temperature faster and maintains colder temperatures during temporary power disconnections between sites. Pre-cooling the empty cooler for 30 minutes before loading also optimises performance and reduces the workload on the dual-fan cooling system.

Can the Igloo cool box be used while driving?

Yes, the Igloo 27L connects to your vehicle's 12V cigarette lighter socket and operates safely whilst driving to your destination. The secure lid lock prevents spills during travel and the compact 40 x 47 x 28cm dimensions fit neatly behind seats or in boot spaces. Position the cooler where the rear ventilation fan has adequate airflow and avoid blocking the cooling vents. When you arrive at your campsite, you simply switch to 240V mains power if electric hook-up is available.
