  Product Description
The Olpro Defford is a 2 man backpacking tent for backpackers, hikers and solo campers who want a strong, solid shelter in a light package. It weighs 2.5kg, packs down to 50 x 15 x 15cm in its compact carrying bag, and Olpro sees it going hiking in the hills, to festivals and out into the wilds.

The frame is geodesic, a structurally sturdy design which offers the Defford extra steadiness in difficult weather. It goes up on alloy poles and pegs out with lightweight alloy pegs, and the bright guy lines are there for visibility. There are two door entry ways, so each of you has your own way in and out.

Inside, the 2 berth inner bedroom is made of fly mesh fabric, with a stowage pocket in each corner and a sewn-in groundsheet bedroom pod, and the tent has three ventilation points. The flysheet is OLTECH REPRO 210T RPS, which Olpro makes mostly from recycled plastic bottles, coated to a 5,000mm hydrostatic head with UV protection, and Olpro states it keeps you dry even in heavy rain. A repair kit comes with it, and Olpro's Product Lifetime Warranty covers it as soon as you register it with Olpro inside 30 days of buying.

Pairs who count each gram pick the Beckford, Olpro's lighter two berth at 2.2 kg, which pitches outer-first so the inner remains dry when you arrive in the rain. The Defford is for two going into the hills who want a tent which takes steady when the weather turns, as its geodesic frame is constructed for stability in difficult weather, and with a door each, nobody climbs over anybody after dark.

How stable is the Olpro Defford in bad weather?

Olpro made the Defford on a geodesic frame for additional stability in challenging weather, with bright guy lines and lightweight alloy pegs to hold it down. The flysheet is OLTECH REPRO 210T RPS coated to a 5,000mm hydrostatic head, and the bedroom pod has a sewn-in groundsheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Olpro Defford weigh?
The Defford weighs 2.5kg and packs to 50 x 15 x 15cm in its compact carry bag. Alloy poles and lightweight alloy pegs keep the weight down for carrying on your back.
Should I choose the Defford or the Beckford?
Choose the Defford for two doors, a storage pocket in each corner and a geodesic frame for stability in challenging weather, at 2.5kg. The Beckford weighs 2.2kg, packs to 45 x 14 x 10cm, pitches outer-first in under 10 minutes and has a 5,000mm groundsheet as well as flysheet.
Why does the Defford use a geodesic frame?
Olpro chose a geodesic design because it is structurally strong, which gives the Defford extra stability in challenging weather. The frame uses alloy poles, and bright guy lines and lightweight alloy pegs hold it out.
Is the Olpro Defford waterproof?
The flysheet is OLTECH REPRO 210T RPS coated to a 5,000mm hydrostatic head with UV protection. Olpro explains 5,000mm as holding back the pressure of 5 metres of water before anything seeps through, and the bedroom pod has a sewn-in groundsheet.
How many doors does the Defford have?
Two door entry ways, so two people sharing the tent each have their own way in and out. The inner bedroom is made from fly mesh fabric, and the tent has three ventilation points to keep the air moving.
Is there storage inside the Olpro Defford?
Yes. The inner tent has a storage pocket in each corner, which keeps small kit off the groundsheet and close to hand at night.
Is the Olpro Defford good for festivals?
Olpro made it as a backpacking tent, and names camping at a festival alongside hiking in the hills and exploring the wilds. It packs to 50 x 15 x 15cm, and its bright guy lines are there for visibility.
What warranty does the Defford have?
Olpro lists the Defford with a lifetime warranty. The Product Lifetime Warranty covers genuine manufacturing faults on qualifying new canvas products bought in 2024 or later, tents included, over the product's reasonable expected life. Register it with Olpro within 30 days if you buy from a retailer, and keep your proof of purchase.

Hydrostatic Head (mm)5000The hydrostatic head of a fabric indicates how well it can keep water out and how waterproof it is. The higher the number, the better! A tent needs to have at least 1000mm HH for light showers, heavy rain and driving wind will put more pressure on the fabric and would therefore require a higher HH of 2000mm. Anything higher than this figure means it can keep out water being pushed through by someone leaning against it for example.
MaterialRecycled Plastic PolyesterMost tents are made from different denier polyester, which is a lightweight, very waterproof material. Polycotton is a heavier fabric, that breathes well allowing campers to stay cooler in sunnier climates. It is also very good at reducting condensation inside the tent.
Number of Bedrooms1This is the number of sectioned off bedrooms that are included in this tent. The standard industry allowance is 60cm per person, though larger or premium tents often provide more space.
Persons2Tent berth indicates how many people your tent can accommodate for sleeping. The industry standard allocates about 60cm of width per occupant, though exact dimensions can vary by manufacturer. If you prefer extra elbow room, you may want a tent berth larger than your headcount. Many campers size up by one or two berths to improve comfort on longer trips.
Pole constructionAlloyThis is whether the poles are inflatable (air) or rigid (e.g - fibreglass / steel or aluminium).
Weight (kg)2.50This is the weight of the tent in kg.
