The Outwell Colorado 5 Air is a tunnel-style inflatable tent that sleeps five people across two separate bedrooms. Using the Rigid Air System, you'll have the tent standing in roughly nine minutes with the included pump. The pre-shaped air tubes create solid headroom through the living area, and the warm-toned flysheet material makes the interior feel bright rather than dark and gloomy. Two doors give you options for entry and exit, with the side door being particularly handy when the front canopy is down. Both doors feature full mesh panels behind the zips, so you can leave them open for airflow without inviting midges inside.

The two Premier Bedrooms use Outwell's darkened fabric, which blocks morning light better than standard tent material. Each bedroom has mesh ventilation panels and interior storage pockets for phones, torches and glasses. The sewn-in groundsheet is double-coated polyethylene that extends throughout the living area, so you're not wrestling with separate footprint sheets or dealing with draughts. The Outtex 4000 Select polyester flysheet offers 4000mm hydrostatic head protection and carries UPF 30+ rating. Outwell has used PFAS-free water repellency treatment, which matters if you're conscious about chemical coatings on family camping gear.

At 26.6kg packed weight, this isn't a tent you'll want to carry far from the car, but that's fairly standard for five-berth inflatables with sewn-in groundsheets. The pack size of 78 x 40 x 45cm fits most car boots, though it's a bulky load. The side door occasionally catches on the inner tent fabric when you're entering with arms full of gear, which can be annoying during setup. The tent comes with everything needed including pump, pegs, repair kit, hooktrack hooks and a valve tool. Duratec fibreglass poles (11-12.7mm) support the front canopy area. The valves sit on the outside of the flysheet, so you can top up air pressure without unzipping anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Outwell Colorado 5 Air take to inflate and pitch completely?
The Colorado 5 Air inflates and becomes weather-ready in approximately 9 minutes using the included pump. Complete pitching with pegging, guy lines, and interior setup takes around 20 minutes total. The Rigid Air System tubes maintain their shape once inflated, eliminating the need for traditional pole threading through sleeves.
What is the difference between Premier Bedrooms and standard tent bedrooms?
Premier Bedrooms in the Colorado 5 Air use Outwell's darkened fabric technology that blocks morning sunlight and provides better privacy compared to standard polyester inner tents. This fabric treatment reduces light transmission significantly, helping families sleep later on bright mornings. Each Premier Bedroom also includes mesh ventilation panels and interior storage pockets.
Is the groundsheet sewn in or separate on the Colorado 5 Air?
The Colorado 5 Air features a fully sewn-in groundsheet made from double-coated waterproof polyethylene that extends throughout both bedrooms and the living area. This integrated groundsheet design eliminates gaps where draughts and insects can enter, and removes the need to purchase or position separate footprint sheets during setup.
What does PFAS-free water repellency mean on the Colorado 5 Air?
PFAS-free water repellency means Outwell treats the Colorado 5 Air flysheet without using per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, which are persistent chemical compounds that accumulate in the environment and human bodies. The tent maintains its 4000mm hydrostatic head waterproof rating using alternative water-repellent treatments that perform effectively whilst avoiding these concerning chemicals.
Can you access the valves without entering the tent?
The Colorado 5 Air positions all inflation and deflation valves on the outside of the flysheet, allowing you to check and adjust air pressure or deflate the tent without unzipping doors or accessing the interior. This external valve placement proves particularly useful for topping up pressure during temperature changes or when checking tent firmness after overnight condensation.
What sleeping configurations work in the Colorado 5 Air?
The Colorado 5 Air provides two separate bedrooms that accommodate various sleeping arrangements. Families typically use one bedroom for parents with a double airbed or camping mattresses, whilst the second bedroom houses three children on single mats or a combination of sleeping setups. The separate bedroom design offers privacy between sleeping areas compared to single-room tents.
How do you repair a puncture in the air tubes?
The Colorado 5 Air includes a repair kit for patching small punctures in the DuraAir tubes. You locate the leak by listening for escaping air or applying soapy water to see bubbles, deflate that specific tube, clean and dry the damaged area, then apply the adhesive patch from the kit. The repair process mirrors bicycle inner tube repairs. Outwell also supplies a valve tool for maintenance of the inflation valves themselves.
Does the Colorado 5 Air pack down small enough for a standard car boot?
The Colorado 5 Air packs to 78 x 40 x 45 centimetres, which fits most standard car boots but takes up considerable space. At 26.6 kilograms packed weight, this tent suits car camping and caravan site holidays rather than backpacking or festivals requiring long carries from parking areas. The pack size accommodates typical family estate cars and SUVs but may challenge smaller hatchback boot spaces when combined with other camping equipment.
