The Vango Sorrento 600XL is a six-person tunnel tent built around the vis-a-vis layout, which positions two three-person bedrooms at opposite ends with a central living space between them. This setup works well for two families sharing or couples who want their own sleeping quarters. The tent uses Powerflex fibreglass poles to create the frame, with Sentinel Essential polyester flysheet fabric rated at 3,000mm hydrostatic head. Both bedrooms feature Lights-Out technology - a coating that blocks around 80% of incoming daylight, which can make a proper difference if you're camping with young children or simply want to sleep past 5am in summer. The groundsheet is fully sewn-in and protected by an external storm skirt.

Vango's villa construction gives you upright side walls rather than sloped ones, so you get more usable height throughout the tent. The living area benefits from Diamond Clear windows and AirZone ventilation panels positioned high and low to encourage airflow and reduce condensation buildup. You'll find toggled privacy curtains between the living space and bedrooms, cable entry points with tidies for running an electric hook-up lead, and lantern hanging points. The bedrooms have lowered entry thresholds and wider doors compared to older Vango models, plus storage pockets sewn into the walls. The Tension Band System (TBS II) adds stability in wind by bracing the poles at three points - you can adjust these or stow them away in calm conditions.

The tent comes with high-visibility guy lines that fade from dark to bright orange, making them easier to spot at night. An oversized carry bag makes packing easier. While fibreglass poles are a little heavier than newer materials, they’re strong, reliable, and perfect for car campers. Vango’s pre-angled pole design maximises internal headroom, giving a more spacious feel than traditional curved poles. The adjustable pegging system ensures a secure pitch even on uneven ground, and all flysheet seams are fully factory-taped for dependable weather protection. Side doors can be paired with king poles to create a handy sheltered porch area (sold separately), adding extra versatility to your setup. The fabric meets EN5912 fire safety standards, and the durable PE groundsheet easily stands up to regular foot traffic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does vis-a-vis layout mean on the Sorrento 600XL?
Vis-a-vis is a French term meaning face-to-face. In tent design, it refers to bedrooms positioned at opposite ends of the tent with the living area in between. The Sorrento 600XL has one three-person bedroom at each end, creating separation and privacy. This layout suits two families sharing or groups wanting distinct sleeping spaces rather than one large shared bedroom.
How effective is the Lights-Out bedroom technology in the Sorrento 600XL?
Vango's Lights-Out coating blocks approximately 80% of incoming daylight by using a darker fabric treatment on the bedroom inners. It won't create complete darkness but does reduce the early sunrise glow enough to help young children and light-sensitive sleepers stay asleep longer during summer months when dawn breaks around 4-5am. The technology is most noticeable in June and July when daylight hours are longest.
Is a 3,000mm waterproof rating sufficient for UK camping?
A 3,000mm hydrostatic head rating on the Sentinel Essential fabric means the tent can handle sustained rain typical of UK conditions. British Standard requirements consider anything above 1,500mm waterproof. The Sorrento 600XL sits comfortably above this threshold. All flysheet seams are factory-taped to prevent water ingress at stitching points, and the sewn-in groundsheet with external storm skirt provides floor-level protection.
What is the TBS II Tension Band System and when should I use it?
The Tension Band System II uses adjustable bands that brace the tent poles at three points to reduce sideways flexing in wind. You tension these bands when expecting strong or changeable winds - they stabilise the pole structure by limiting movement. In calm weather you can slacken or stow them away. The system is patented (EP1905927) and works by creating additional support points along the pole length rather than relying solely on guy lines and pegging.
Can I stand up inside the Sorrento 600XL?
The villa construction design creates upright side walls which increase usable height compared to tents with sloped walls. Pre-angled poles also add headroom by lifting the roof profile. Vango doesn't list the peak height in the specifications provided, but villa construction tunnels in this category generally offer standing height in the central living area for adults of average height. Bedroom areas will have lower ceilings as these sit towards the ends where the tunnel curves down.
What are king poles and do I need them with the Sorrento 600XL?
King poles are adjustable upright poles that support a porch or canopy extension at the tent entrance. The Sorrento 600XL has side doors that are king pole compatible, allowing you to create a sheltered area outside the door by propping it open and supporting it with these poles. They're not included with the tent and aren't essential for basic use - they're an optional addition if you want covered outdoor space for boots, chairs or cooking equipment.
How does the AirZone ventilation system work?
Vango AirZone uses ventilation panels positioned at both high and low points in the tent to create airflow through convection. Warm air rises and exits through upper vents while cooler air enters through lower openings, establishing a circulation pattern. This reduces condensation buildup that occurs when warm breath and body heat meet cooler tent fabric. The system is passive - it works without fans or power - and the Diamond Clear windows also contribute to air movement when opened.
