  Product Description
The Waeco WAC 2200 is a roof-mounted air conditioner for motorhomes, caravans and panel van conversions, rated at 2200 W of cooling and sized to drop into a standard 400 x 400 cm roof aperture. It's aimed at owners of insulated vehicles up to 7 metres long who tour through European summers and want the interior brought down to a sensible temperature quickly. Waeco built the rooftop unit in white with a low, aerodynamic profile, so it sits neatly on most coachbuilt and panel van roofs. The matching WAC ADBL air distribution box is supplied with it, moving cooled air forward and back along the vehicle, and the remote handles temperature and blower speed from wherever you're sitting.

What size motorhome does the Waeco WAC 2200 suit?

Waeco rates the WAC 2200 for insulated motorhomes, caravans and panel vans up to 7 metres, fitted to vehicles with a floor area above 4 square metres. It puts out 2200 W of cooling through a 400 x 400 mm roof aperture, draws 4.5 A or less at 220 to 240 V, and the rooftop unit weighs 28 kg.

Power draw sits at 4.5 A or below on a 220 to 240 V supply, with a 5 A fuse specified, and the compressor starts gently rather than pulling a heavy surge. On continental pitches pegged at 6 A, this counts for as much as the headline cooling figure. The supplied air distribution box measures 579 mm front to back by 518 mm across and stands 54 mm high, keeping headroom intact, and its outlets swivel under fingertip pressure to point air where you want it. Alongside cooling you get a dehumidify setting for damp mornings, a ventilation setting for circulating air with the compressor off, an automatic mode holding your chosen temperature, and a sleep function for overnight running.

Installation suits roof thicknesses from 25 mm to 60 mm, with duct sections stacked to match: one section for 25 to 35 mm, two for 35 to 45 mm, three for 45 to 55 mm and four for 55 to 60 mm. Waeco asks for a flat mounting area within 10 degrees of horizontal, centred between two longitudinal roof supports, with at least 50 mm of clearance around the unit. Many owners drop the WAC 2200 straight into an existing 400 x 400 cm rooflight opening, which keeps the cutting work to a minimum. The rooftop unit weighs 28 kg, so factor it into your payload figure and ask your vehicle manufacturer to confirm the roof structure suits the static and travelling loads. Waeco rates efficient operation between -2°C and 52°C ambient, and the WAC 2200 carries a 2 year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size motorhome or caravan does the Waeco WAC 2200 suit?
Waeco rates the WAC 2200 for insulated motorhomes, caravans and panel vans up to 7 metres in length. The installation manual also specifies a vehicle floor area larger than 4 square metres. Cooling output is 2200 W, roughly 7,500 BTU per hour, which covers most coachbuilt motorhomes, touring caravans and larger panel van conversions. Vehicles up to 8 metres suit the WAC 2600 or WAC 2600I instead.
Will the Waeco WAC 2200 run on a 6 amp campsite hook-up?
The WAC 2200 draws 4.5 A or less at 220 to 240 V and Waeco specifies a 5 A fuse. A soft start-up brings the compressor up gently instead of pulling a heavy surge, so the unit works on sites with low fuse protection, including the 6 A supplies common across France, Spain and Italy. Leaving some headroom on the pitch supply keeps the kettle and fridge running alongside it.
Does the Waeco WAC 2200 fit an existing 400 x 400 mm rooflight aperture?
Yes. Waeco designed the WAC 2200 around a 400 x 400 mm roof cut-out, so an existing rooflight opening of the same size takes the unit with no extra cutting. Roof thickness needs to fall between 25 mm and 60 mm, with duct sections stacked to suit: one section for 25 to 35 mm, two for 35 to 45 mm, three for 45 to 55 mm and four for 55 to 60 mm. The mounting area sits within 10 degrees of horizontal, centred between two longitudinal roof supports, with at least 50 mm of clearance around the unit.
Is the air distribution box supplied with the Waeco WAC 2200?
Yes. This package pairs the WAC 2200 rooftop unit, SKU 9630002128, with the matching WAC ADBL air distribution box, SKU 9630002131, giving you both halves of the installation in one purchase. The WAC ADBL measures 579 mm front to back, 518 mm across and 54 mm high, weighs 3.5 kg, and holds a removable dust filter for cleaning. The unit carries a 2 year warranty.
Does the Waeco WAC 2200 heat as well as cool?
The WAC 2200 is built as a dedicated cooling unit, with 2200 W of cooling output alongside dehumidify, ventilation, automatic and sleep settings. For heating from the same rooftop position, the WAC 2600I adds inverter compressor and heat pump technology, giving 2300 W of heating output on top of 2600 W of cooling.
Will the Waeco WAC 2200 run from a leisure battery and inverter?
The WAC 2200 takes a 220 to 240 V, 50 Hz supply, so mains hook-up powers it directly. Off-grid running works through a pure sine wave inverter sized for the compressor load, fed by a lithium leisure battery bank with solar or DC-DC charging behind it. Owners running rooftop air conditioning away from hook-up commonly build around 200 Ah or more of lithium capacity. An installer will match inverter output to your existing system.
How much weight does the Waeco WAC 2200 add to the roof?
The rooftop unit weighs 28 kg. Adding the WAC ADBL air distribution box at 3.5 kg brings the installed total to 31.5 kg. Factor this into your payload allowance, and ask your vehicle manufacturer to confirm the roof structure suits the static weight plus the loads generated while driving. Waeco recommends siting the unit centrally between two longitudinal roof supports, and advises checking with the manufacturer about any change to the recorded vehicle height.
What separates the WAC 2200 from the WAC 2600 and WAC 2600I?
The WAC 2200 gives 2200 W of cooling for vehicles up to 7 metres, draws 4.5 A or less and weighs 28 kg. The WAC 2600 steps up to 2600 W for vehicles up to 8 metres, draws 6 A or less and weighs 30 kg. The WAC 2600I matches the 2600 W cooling output, adds 2300 W of heating through inverter compressor and heat pump technology, draws 7 A or less and its rooftop unit weighs 31.5 kg. All three share the same 400 x 400 mm roof cut-out and 805 x 722 x 230 mm rooftop dimensions.
