1 Technical Question on the Control System 3 Speed Omnivent Rooflights

Question

I have an Omnivent 3 speed roof van fitted to my 2009 Lunar caravan. I look to have a problem with the switch/control. The fan works ok in one direction on speed 2 and 3 but blows a fuse when in the reverse direction, it also does not work on speed 1 in either direction. I have had a look on your parts list and it shows product ref 140871, but am looking for some clarification that I am buying the correct part. I have the bar code from the fan will that help you confirm the correct part as I only want to order if I am sure it is the correct part. I am guessing that Omnivent may have produced more than 1 model of this van. Can you advise if you think i need the control system and if so which part i require. I will be happy to phone if that helps.

Answer

This could be a problem with the motor or the switch panel. We would change the switch initially which is our ref. 140871.

The control system is a direct replacement for the original system. It consist of the switch and two power resistors along with a mounting plate for the resistors. On the original system the resistors are riveted through the plate and onto the plastic housing for the fan. Consequently these need to be drilled out. I replaced these with a couple of 4mm dia bolts and nuts that I had, this is no real issue but something to be aware of. The electrical connectors are a push fit into the caravan wiring. I ordered the item on line and it was delivered the next day. Brilliant, even if a bit expensive.
