12 FAQs on the Thetford 165 Porta Potti Camping Toilet

Where can I buy a spare holding tank for my Porta Potti?
Sorry, the tank is not available separately. So you can't buy a spare holding tank for your Porta Potti.
What can I do when the flush tube of my Porta Potti is broken?
It's only possible to replace the complete toilet in case of a broken flush tube.
Which one is the smallest Porta Potti?
The Porta Potti 335 is the smallest portable toilet in our range.
Which Porta Potti fits the best in my Van?
This depends on the situation in your Van. For all dimensions, please check the specifications of our portable toilets.
How does the level indication of the Porta Potti work?
The indication works with a float equipped with a magnet. When it rises, it comes to the sensor and indicates that your tank is full.
Can I use Aqua Kem Blue in my Porta Potti?
Yes this is possible, the correct quantities can be found on the Aqua Kem Blue label.
How does the Porta Potti work?
Toilet consists of 2 sections: the upper section is a combined flush water tank and toilet bowl with detachable seat and cover. The lower section is the waste-holding tank.
What are the maximum and minimum temperatures a Porta Potti will operate?
All Porta Potti models can stand the following temperatures:
+1°C to +60°C (operational)
-40°C to +60°C (storage)
What's the difference between a bellow and a piston pump?

What is the maximum loading in kg for our Porta Potti?
Porta Potti: one time max load is 400 kg; max loading in normal use is approx 120 kg (6000 cycles)
What special maintenance do you advise for the Porta Potti toilets?
To prolong the life span of a portable toilet we advise to maintain a Porta Potti toilet regularly. Use Cassette Tank Cleaner for the waste-holding tank 2-3 times a year and treat the seals with Seal Lubricant when the seals become dry. Cassette Tank Cleaner safely removess stubborn calcium deposits on the inside of a waste-holding tank and Seal Lubricant keeps the seals soft.
I do not have a drain and electricity in my holiday home. Can I use a Porta Potti?
All portable toilets don’t require a connection to a drainage or water system. Therefore the Porta Potti is a perfect solution for those situations.

Excellent Product

by Mrs. Yabugbe (26 Oct 2025)

I was really impressed with how quickly the Threshold Potti arrived. It's sturdier than I expected and super easy to set up - absolutely no hassle. Both adults and kids can use it comfortably, and my friends are already planning to get theirs after seeing how efficient it is. I highly recommend this product!.

The Throne…

by Jo (24 Jun 2021)
4 star review(4/5)
Purchased the Thetford Porta Potti for our upcoming camper van trip & festival. The thought of sharing a porta loo feels me with dread and this purchase was a great deal; loo, toilet rolls, cleaning fluids and carry case. Have not used yet, so can’t rate that, however, can’t fault the design and ease of putting together. Whilst empty it is fairly lightweight and easily stored in the carry case. Sounds silly, but actually looking forward to using my thrown and not queuing haha!

Self Sufficient Camping Made Easy

by Mr Williams (12 Aug 2020)
5 star review(5/5)
* Excellent product - easy to setup, maintain and clean
* Makes being self sufficient whilst camping easy (especially under the current virus conditions)
* The volume of the tank is sufficient for 2 people over a couple of days before requiring it to be emptied
* Should we need to replace any components in future, the product is modular enough to allow for this and Thetford provide offer replacement parts
* Leisureshopdirect were clear in their communication and the product was delivered promptly which was great given that there was a shortage of these!
* Excellent price
* Highly recommended

Had A Lot Of Boats And A Lot Of These!

by Oxford Buyer (13 Nov 2019)
4 star review(4/5)
It's a well known maker and a well made product.
Easy to set up with the appropriate fluids and easy to keep clean and presentable.
Breaks down easily to separate the base and take to disposal point and reconnects and locks back together very positively.
Have had a variety of chemical loos on a fair few different boats over the years and this is a good one.
