The Thule VeloSwing (302064) is a swing-away towbar designed specifically for panel vans used as motorhomes and campervans. Compatible with the Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, and Citroën Jumper from 2006 onwards, the Opel Movano from 2022 onwards, and the Toyota Proace Max from 2024 onwards, it replaces your standard rear bumper section and installs as a certified, fully functional towbar. The unit weighs 53 kg, spans 157 cm wide, and has a 95-degree swing arc so you get full clearance to open your rear doors. That means bikes stay loaded while you access your gear at the back of the van — no removing racks, no unhooking anything.

Can you open the rear doors of a Fiat Ducato with bikes on the towbar?


Yes. The Thule VeloSwing swings 95 degrees to the side, giving full access to your rear doors even with a loaded bike rack attached. It's rated to carry up to 150 kg vertically and tow up to 3,000 kg, making it a fully certified towbar rather than just a bike-carrying attachment.

What makes the VeloSwing genuinely different from a standard towbar is its integrated locking system. A colour-coded indicator shows green when the bar is locked into position, so there's no guessing or rattling around on the road. The Thule One Key System compatibility means you can match the lock cylinder to your other Thule carriers, running one key across your entire setup. It works with any standard towbar bike rack or cargo carrier, so if you already own a Thule towbar rack for your car, it'll go straight onto the VeloSwing without adapters.

This is very much a permanent installation. An optional pre-cut bumper panel is available separately in two versions — one for vans with parking sensors and one without — and gives the installation a clean, factory-finish look. A wiring loom is also required separately, with different kits available for pre-2011 and post-2011 vehicles. As a certified towbar, the VeloSwing handles towing duties for trailers, boat trailers, and other accessories up to 3,000 kg, subject to your vehicle's own towing limit. It's a practical, long-term addition for anyone running a Ducato-based motorhome or campervan who wants bikes on board without losing access to the back of the vehicle.

With Thule VeloSwing you have the convenience of using the same towbar bike rack on your RV as your ordinary car. If you need to access gear at the back of your vehicle, simply swing the Thule VeloSwing aside for full access to your rear door even with the e-bikes loaded. If you need to carry more packing, easily remove the bike rack and mount your towbar cargo box instead.

Which vans is the Thule VeloSwing 302064 compatible with?

Do I need to remove the bikes to open my van's rear doors when using the VeloSwing?
No. The defining feature of the Thule VeloSwing is its swing-away mechanism. The entire towbar arm pivots 95 degrees to the side, giving full access to the rear doors of your van without needing to unload or detach any bike rack or carrier. Does the Thule VeloSwing come with a wiring loom?
No, the wiring loom is sold separately. Thule offers different wiring kits depending on the age of your vehicle. Ducato, Boxer, and Jumper owners need to select either the pre-2011 or post-2011 wiring kit. The correct loom is required to power trailer board lights and must be purchased alongside the VeloSwing for a complete, road-legal installation.
What bike racks work with the Thule VeloSwing?
The VeloSwing accepts any standard towbar-mounted bike rack, not just Thule's own range. Because it uses a standard towbar receiver, you can also swap between a bike rack and a towbar cargo box or any other towbar-mounted accessory you already own. Thule One Key System compatibility lets you match the VeloSwing's lock to your existing Thule carriers so a single key operates the whole setup.
Does the Thule VeloSwing require a bumper modification?
Yes. Because the VeloSwing replaces the lower rear section of the bumper, a pre-cut bumper panel is required for a finished installation. Thule sells two versions separately: one for vans without parking sensors (302065) and one for vans equipped with parking sensors (302066). Without the bumper panel the installation will have an unfinished appearance around the towbar mount area.
How does the locking system on the VeloSwing work?
The VeloSwing uses an integrated locking mechanism with a built-in colour indicator. When the towbar arm is correctly locked into the driving position, the indicator shows that it is secured. This removes any ambiguity about whether the bar is properly engaged before driving. The lock is operated manually and the colour change provides an immediate visual confirmation of a secure lock.
