The Dometic RMD 10.5XP absorption Extra-deep refrigerator (177 L) truly leaves nothing to be desired. It's the first ever smart refrigerator which allows operation from the central control unit. A chic design adds glamour to your mobile kitchen, with elegant flat, flush-fitting doors opening to a versatile interior with smart storage solutions for dairies, meat, fruit, vegetables and even wine bottles. The double-hinged doors allow maximum convenience in any space as the doors can be opened left and right using the full-height aluminium handles. In terms of performance, the 10-series Dometic RMD is the best in its class. Tested in the extreme heat of the Australian desert, it maintained its superb cooling performance – a proven reliability that gives users the freedom to travel anywhere!

This new generation absorption refrigerator gives you unprecedented convenience: automatic selection of the energy source (12 V, 230 V or gas), a door that opens to the left and right, and a versatile interior with plenty of room for your goodies. What's the difference between the RMD 10.5XP and RMD 10.5XT?


The RMD 10.5XP features an LED control panel with MODE, MAX, MID and MIN buttons, whilst the RMD 10.5XT has a TFT colour display with an ergonomic push-turn control knob. All other specifications remain identical including 177-litre capacity (142L fridge, 35L freezer), 605mm extra-deep cabinet, 580g/24h gas consumption and 250W mains input. Both models offer the same double-door design with separate compartments and double-hinged operation for left or right opening.

Silent absorption cooling technology keeps your provisions chilled without any operating noise. The LED light bar provides uniform illumination inside both fridge and freezer compartments. A two-point locking system on each door keeps contents secure during travel. Smart CI-BUS technology allows the fridge to communicate with compatible control systems fitted in modern vehicles. The separate freezer door provides direct access to frozen items without letting warm air into the main fridge compartment. Gas operation requires professional installation by a Gas Safe registered engineer, with proper ventilation and external flue arrangements. The fridge compartment provides 142 litres of usable space whilst the separate freezer offers 35 litres for frozen storage.

WHAT IS AUTOMATIC ENERGY SELECTION (AES)?
This means that this fridge will automatically determine the best power source to use. An example is that it would automatically switch to 12V when travelling but as soon as you are on the campsite and hook-up to mains, it will select 230V automatically. You also have the choice to manually over-ride the automatic choice. This is an automatically igniting fridge, it will ignite as soon as it is powered.

Why does the RMD 10.5XP have separate doors for fridge and freezer?
The separate door design lets you access frozen items without opening the main fridge compartment, which keeps cold air where it needs to be and reduces temperature fluctuations. Each door opens left or right using the double-hinge system, and both compartments have independent two-point locking systems for secure travel. The 35-litre freezer has its own door shelves for storing smaller frozen items separately from the main freezer space.
How much extra storage does the extra-deep cabinet provide?
The 605mm cabinet depth provides substantially more usable space than standard-depth models which typically measure around 550mm. This extra 55mm translates to approximately 20-25 litres additional capacity, allowing you to store larger items and stock up for longer trips. The extra depth is particularly useful for bulky items like milk cartons, juice bottles and meal containers that won't fit in shallower fridges.
What is the VG-Fresh crisper lid system in the RMD 10.5XP?
The VG-Fresh crisper lid features adjustable humidity control that creates optimal storage conditions for fruit and vegetables by reducing moisture loss. You can adjust the humidity settings to suit different types of produce, keeping leafy greens crisp and preventing fruits from drying out. When you don't need the crisper function, the lid serves as an additional storage shelf for other items, giving you flexible interior space.
How much gas does the RMD 10.5XP consume?
The RMD 10.5XP consumes 580 grams of LPG per 24 hours when running on gas at 30 mbar pressure. This works out to approximately 4-5 days of continuous operation from a standard 6kg Calor gas bottle, though actual consumption varies with ambient temperature, door openings and thermostat settings. The higher gas consumption compared to smaller models reflects the larger 177-litre capacity and extra-deep cabinet requiring more cooling power.
Will the RMD 10.5XP fit in the same space as my old fridge?
The RMD 10.5XP requires an installation space of at least 523mm width, 605mm depth and 1245mm height. Before ordering, measure your existing installation space carefully and compare these dimensions with your current fridge. The extra-deep design means you'll need 605mm depth available, which is deeper than many standard fridges. Check ventilation requirements, gas connection positions and electrical routing as these may differ from your existing installation.
How do the double-hinged doors work on both compartments?
Both the main fridge door and separate freezer door feature Dometic's patented double-hinge system, allowing each to open left or right without any hinge conversion work. Full-height aluminium handles are fitted on both sides of each door, so you can pull either door open from whichever direction suits your kitchen layout. This is particularly useful in tight spaces or when your motorhome layout means approaching the fridge from different angles.
What does Smart CI-BUS technology do in the RMD 10.5XP?
Smart CI-BUS technology allows the RMD 10.5XP to communicate with compatible digital control panels fitted in modern motorhomes and caravans. Through this connection, you can monitor and control the fridge's operation from your vehicle's central control system, viewing current temperature, power source in use and operational status. This integration is optional and requires a compatible CI-BUS control panel installed in your vehicle.
How does the two-point locking system work on each door?
Each door features secure catches fitted on both sides that engage automatically when you close the door, ensuring contents stay safely inside during travel. The system works identically whether you open the door left or right, with no additional latches or catches to remember. This dual-point design provides more secure closure than single-latch systems, preventing doors from swinging open if your vehicle encounters rough roads or sudden stops.

1 FAQ on the Dometic RMD10.5XP Absorption Fridge / Freezer

There is a lot of ice formation in the refrigerator. How can this be fixed?
Check that the door closes properly. You can easily test this yourself by placing a torch in the refrigerator. If you see a light slit along the edge of the door opening, then the door must be closed properly or newly hung.

Perhaps the thermostat is set higher than necessary. Or food with a high degree of saturation has been placed in the refrigerator, forming condensation on the evaporator. We recommend thawing the refrigerator and drying it properly. Afterwards, bear in mind these possible causes.
