The Crusader 37mbar Propane Regulator with Hand Wheel is a low-pressure regulator designed for use with standard Calor propane bottles. This regulator connects to any Calor propane bottle using the standard UK POL (5/8" left-hand thread) inlet connection and delivers gas at exactly 37mbar, which is the standard pressure for most domestic propane appliances across the UK. The hand wheel on the inlet nut means you can tighten and remove it without needing a spanner, making it far more convenient than traditional screw-on regulators. It's certified to EN12864 standards and comes with two spare rubber washers, so you're covered if the originals wear out over time.

This regulator suits a wide range of applications including gas cookers, boiling rings, barbecues, camping stoves, patio heaters, caravans and motorhomes. The maximum flow rate is 1.5kg per hour, which is plenty for most home and leisure gas appliances. The outlet connection is a standard 8mm nozzle designed for rubber gas hose, so you can connect it to most garden hose assemblies and gas appliance hoses you'll find in UK caravan and camping shops. The regulator is compact, weighing just 400 grams, and is roughly 15 centimetres long including the tightening nut, so it won't take up much space in your caravan or motorhome.

One thing to keep in mind is that this regulator is designed specifically for propane gas and won't work with butane cylinders. The gas bottle must always be used upright when the regulator is connected, which is standard practice for all LPG equipment anyway. If you're using it outdoors, protect it from rain and heavy spray, and always check for leaks using a soapy water solution rather than a flame. The inlet can handle pressures up to 16 bar, so it's suitable for most propane bottle sizes including the commonly used 3.9kg, 6kg, 13kg, 19kg and 47kg Calor bottles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What bottles does this regulator fit?
This Crusader regulator with UK POL connection fits all standard Calor propane bottles including 3.9kg, 6kg, 13kg, 19kg and 47kg sizes. The 5/8" left-hand thread POL inlet is the standard connection for all these bottles. Make sure your bottle has a POL valve and not a clip-on connection, as this regulator is for screw-on POL type fittings only.
Do I need a spanner to fit this regulator?
No. The hand wheel inlet nut can be tightened and removed by hand without any tools. This is one of the main advantages of this design compared to traditional POL regulators which require an adjustable spanner or specific sized spanner to tighten. The hand wheel design makes it much quicker and easier to connect and disconnect when needed.
What pressure does this regulator supply?
This Crusader regulator is set at 37mbar, which is the UK standard outlet pressure for propane regulators. This fixed pressure is suitable for most domestic and leisure appliances including gas cookers, camping stoves, barbecues, patio heaters and caravans. The pressure cannot be adjusted on this model as it is a fixed single-stage regulator.
What hose connection does it have?
The outlet connection is an 8mm push-on hose nozzle, which accepts standard 8mm bore rubber gas hose. This is the most common gas hose size for camping, caravanning and barbecue applications in the UK. You'll need to push the hose onto the nozzle firmly and secure it with a proper hose clip to ensure a leak-free connection.
Can this regulator be used with butane gas?
No. This regulator is specifically designed for propane gas only and must not be used with butane cylinders. Butane requires a different regulator set at a lower pressure (typically 28-30mbar). Using the wrong regulator type can affect appliance performance and may be unsafe. Always check your gas bottle type and use the correct corresponding regulator.
What is the maximum flow rate?
This regulator has a maximum flow rate of 1.5 kilograms per hour, which equals approximately 71,250 BTU per hour. This flow rate is sufficient for most domestic applications including gas cookers with multiple rings, camping stoves, single patio heaters and barbecues. If you're powering multiple high-demand appliances simultaneously, you may find this flow rate limiting.
Is this regulator waterproof?
This regulator is not fully waterproof, so if it's being used outdoors it should be protected from rain and water spray. A simple cover or positioning it where rain won't directly hit it will suffice. Never fully submerge the regulator in water and avoid storing it in damp conditions. If water gets inside, it can affect the regulator's function and create safety issues.
What does EN12864 certification mean?
EN12864 is the European safety standard for equipment for gas burners and gas appliances. This certification means the regulator has been tested and verified to meet strict safety requirements for LPG equipment. The certification ensures the regulator has proper pressure control, can handle the stated inlet pressures safely, and won't leak or fail under normal operating conditions.
Does the bottle need to be upright when using this regulator?
Yes. The gas bottle must always be positioned upright when the regulator is connected and gas is being drawn from it. This is essential with all LPG equipment to ensure you're drawing gas vapour and not liquid propane. Tilting or laying the bottle on its side while the regulator is attached can result in liquid LPG entering the system, which is dangerous and will damage appliances.
How do I check for gas leaks?
Always use a soapy water solution to check for leaks. Mix ordinary washing up liquid with water until you have a thin soapy solution, then brush or spray it onto the regulator connections and joints. Bubbles forming indicate a gas leak. Never use a naked flame or match to check for leaks as this is extremely dangerous. If you find a leak, turn off the gas supply immediately and contact a professional.
