  Product Description
The Robens Fairbanks Grande is a 7 man polycotton bell tent for families and bigger groups who drive to a site and want a spacious, breathable shelter with full standing height. Its HydroTex Polycotton flysheet, 65% polyester and 35% cotton, remains cool on warm days and cuts condensation in cooler weather. The 210T Oxford polyester groundsheet has a 10,000mm hydrostatic head, and Robens wind tested the Grande to 150 km/h.

One aluminium centre pole, anodised at 36.9 to 47.5 mm, pitches the tent in around 11 minutes. The pole is offset from dead centre, offering more usable floor on one side. Roll-up side panels let you adapt airflow through the walls, side wall vents draw fresh air in, and a full mesh inner door stops insects getting in. Reflective guylines mark the tent's perimeter after dark.

Pitched, the Grande covers 470 x 380 cm with 240 cm of height at the peak, enough for most adults to stand comfortably throughout the interior. A large porch area offers room for boots, chairs and kit. It packs down to 86 x 27 cm and weighs 13.5kg. Robens advises weathering the polycotton flysheet after purchase by soaking it with a garden hose and letting it dry to tighten the weave and improve water resistance.

Smaller groups of three or four who want the same polycotton bell tent in a lighter package pick the regular Fairbanks. It pitches in 8 minutes at 9.6kg on a 365 x 300 cm footprint. The Grande is for families and groups of up to seven who value the additional standing height and floor space for camp furniture and longer stays.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the Robens Fairbanks Grande?
Pitched, it measures 470 cm long, 380 cm wide and 240 cm high at the centre pole. Inside there is one bedroom and a large porch area. It weighs 13.5kg and packs down to 86 x 27 cm.
Should I choose the Fairbanks Grande or the standard Fairbanks?
The Grande sleeps seven on a 470 x 380 cm footprint with 240 cm of standing height, weighs 13.5kg and pitches in about 11 minutes. The standard Fairbanks sleeps four on a 365 x 300 cm footprint, weighs 9.6kg and pitches in about 8 minutes. Both use the same HydroTex Polycotton flysheet.
How long does the Fairbanks Grande take to pitch?
Robens gives a pitching time of 11 minutes, with the tent ready to move into at 9 minutes. It goes up on a single aluminium centre pole with the inner and flysheet pitching in one.
Is the Fairbanks Grande waterproof?
The flysheet is HydroTex Polycotton, 65% polyester and 35% cotton. In rain the cotton fibres swell to tighten the weave and form a waterproof seal, and Robens adds a water-repellent treatment. The groundsheet is 210T Oxford polyester with a 10,000mm hydrostatic head.
Does the Fairbanks Grande need weathering?
Robens says weathering is not strictly required with HydroTex Polycotton, but recommends it after purchase and again after long storage. Soak the flysheet thoroughly with a garden hose, let it dry fully, and repeat a couple of times to tighten the weave.
How is the Fairbanks Grande ventilated?
Roll-up side panels on the walls let you adjust airflow. Side wall vents draw in fresh air, and a full mesh inner door allows ventilation with the outer door open while keeping insects out.
How wind resistant is the Fairbanks Grande?
Robens wind tested the Fairbanks Grande to 150 km/h. The single aluminium centre pole is anodised at 36.9 to 47.5 mm diameter, and reflective guylines hold the tent in place.
How heavy is the Fairbanks Grande packed?
It weighs 13.5kg and packs to 86 x 27 cm. A pair sharing the load will manage it from the car to a pitch, but it is a two-trip tent if you are carrying other gear as well.

Hydrostatic Head (mm)10000The hydrostatic head of a fabric indicates how well it can keep water out and how waterproof it is. The higher the number, the better! A tent needs to have at least 1000mm HH for light showers, heavy rain and driving wind will put more pressure on the fabric and would therefore require a higher HH of 2000mm. Anything higher than this figure means it can keep out water being pushed through by someone leaning against it for example.
MaterialPolycottonMost tents are made from different denier polyester, which is a lightweight, very waterproof material. Polycotton is a heavier fabric, that breathes well allowing campers to stay cooler in sunnier climates. It is also very good at reducting condensation inside the tent.
Persons7Tent berth indicates how many people your tent can accommodate for sleeping. The industry standard allocates about 60cm of width per occupant, though exact dimensions can vary by manufacturer. If you prefer extra elbow room, you may want a tent berth larger than your headcount. Many campers size up by one or two berths to improve comfort on longer trips.
Pole constructionAluminiumThis is whether the poles are inflatable (air) or rigid (e.g - fibreglass / steel or aluminium).
Porch AreaNoA porch area gives campers a lot of extra room, that can be used as a wet zone (drying off before entering the main living space), storage of all your outside gear overnight, or as a place to cook and dine or a great area for your family dog to sleep. It adds a lot of versatility to your camping lifestyle.
Weight (kg)13.50This is the weight of the tent in kg.
Wing AreaNoAn additional wing area can be very useful as it can be used as an extra bedroom area, storage of toys and camping equipment or as a place to put a comfy inflatable sofa, so you can sit back and read your favourite book. Alternatively, it is an ideal spot for the family dog to sleep.
