The Vango Rock & Roll 12cm sleeping mat solves the awkward gaps and uneven surfaces you get when converting campervan seats into beds. It's a self-inflating mattress built specifically for rock and roll bed systems, which means it's shaped and sized to fit those converted seating areas properly. The 12cm thickness gives you proper cushioning from the base structure underneath, and the 3D construction with vertical walls means you get full width across the entire mat rather than rolling towards the edges like you would with a tapered design.

The 75 denier polyester has a brushed peach finish that feels warm straight away, not cold and plasticky like cheaper mats. It's not the lightest option if you're backpacking, but that's not what it's for - this sits permanently in your van or gets stored in the garage between trips. The Cyclone valve opens wide for quick inflation (though you'll still want to top it up with a few breaths for firmness) and makes deflation much faster than standard valves. You roll it up, secure it with the compression strap on the carry bag, and it's ready for storage. The main thing to know is that self-inflating mats need storing unrolled or loosely rolled when not in use, otherwise the foam core loses its ability to expand properly over time.

Vango designed this specifically for VW California beds, Mazda Bongo conversions, and similar rock and roll setups where standard rectangular camping mats just don't work. The dimensions match the typical bench seat width, and the 3D construction stops you feeling the gaps between cushions or the metal frame beneath. It's thick enough that side sleepers get proper shoulder support, and couples using two mats side by side won't get a ridge down the middle because the vertical walls sit flush together. The compression bag has proper handles rather than just straps, which makes a difference when you're trying to get it back in after a trip.
