Product Description

The Vango Double Flocked Airbed delivers proper camping comfort without the faff. Its coil beam construction provides support across the entire sleeping surface, whilst the flocked top layer feels soft against your skin and stops sleeping bags from sliding about during the night. The duo option valve is genuinely useful - you can top up air pressure in the morning without letting existing air escape, and when it's time to pack up, the valve opens wide for quick deflation. Takes about three minutes to inflate with a decent pump, and the 240kg weight capacity means two adults can sleep comfortably without worrying about overloading.

This airbed works well for family camping trips, festival weekends, or as a spare bed at home when relatives visit. The smooth underside won't damage groundsheets, which matters if you're using it inside a tent with an integrated floor. Packs down smaller than traditional foam camping mats, making it easier to fit in the car alongside all your other gear. Vango includes repair patches in the pack, which you'll want to keep handy because punctures can happen with any inflatable bed - though the flocked surface is reasonably resistant to catches from tent zips and general wear.

The double size measures approximately 188cm x 137cm when fully inflated, giving two people enough room without feeling cramped. The coil beam design keeps the surface relatively flat throughout the night, rather than creating that balloon effect you get with cheaper airbeds. You'll need a pump - manual, battery-powered, or electric all work fine - as there's no built-in inflation system. The comfortable flocked surface just needs a little extra airing to dry fully to keep it perfect and fresh, ready for your next adventure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pump do I need for the Vango Double Flocked Airbed?

The Vango Double Flocked Airbed works with any standard camping pump. Manual foot pumps are the most common choice for camping trips as they don't need batteries or electricity. Battery-powered and electric pumps work faster, typically inflating the bed in under three minutes. Check your pump has the correct valve adapter - most camping pumps come with multiple nozzle sizes that fit standard airbed valves.

How do you stop an airbed deflating overnight?

Airbeds naturally lose some pressure overnight as the air inside cools and contracts, particularly on cold nights. This isn't a leak - it's physics. Inflate the bed fully before sleeping, making sure the valve is completely closed and secured. The duo option valve on this Vango airbed lets you top up air pressure in the morning without releasing existing air. If the bed feels significantly softer after a few hours, check the valve seal and inspect for punctures using soapy water.

What does flocked surface mean on an airbed?

A flocked surface has tiny fabric fibres bonded to the PVC material, creating a soft, velvety texture. This stops sleeping bags and bedding from sliding around during the night, and feels more comfortable against bare skin than plain plastic. Flocked airbeds also tend to be quieter - you won't hear as much rustling when you move. The flocking provides a small amount of insulation compared to plain PVC, though you'll still want a sleeping bag or duvet rated for the conditions.

Can two adults sleep on a double airbed?

Yes, the Vango Double Flocked Airbed has a 240kg weight capacity, which accommodates two adults comfortably. The coil beam construction provides better support than basic airbeds, distributing weight evenly across the surface. When inflated, this double airbed measures approximately 188cm long by 137cm wide, giving two people reasonable space without feeling cramped. The flocked surface helps prevent the rolling-together effect that happens with some inflatable beds.

How do you pack away a Vango airbed?

Open the valve fully and press down on the airbed to push air out faster. Once most air is expelled, fold the bed lengthways in thirds, then roll tightly from the opposite end to the valve, forcing remaining air out as you go. Leave the valve open whilst rolling. The Vango Double Flocked Airbed packs down into a relatively compact size, but won't be as small as it was when new - this is normal for all airbeds. Store in the carry bag provided, keeping it in a dry place away from direct sunlight and sharp objects.

What is coil beam construction in an airbed?

Coil beam construction uses vertical air columns inside the airbed, similar to springs in a traditional mattress. These columns run across the width of the bed, providing structured support and preventing the balloon-like bulging you get with single-chamber airbeds. This design keeps the sleeping surface relatively flat and stable when you move around during the night. Coil beam airbeds offer better comfort and support than basic designs, making them suitable for longer camping trips.

Will this airbed damage my tent groundsheet?

No, the Vango Double Flocked Airbed has a smooth base specifically designed to be groundsheet-friendly. The underside won't scratch or wear through tent floors with normal use. For extra protection, particularly if you're camping on rough ground, place a tarp or footprint underneath the airbed. This also provides insulation from cold ground and helps keep the underside clean, which extends the life of both your airbed and tent groundsheet.

How cold does an airbed get when camping?

Airbeds provide minimal insulation because air circulates inside the chambers, drawing heat away from your body. In spring and autumn, you'll feel the cold coming through from the ground. Use a sleeping mat, blanket, or duvet underneath your sleeping bag to create an insulating layer between you and the airbed. Some campers place a foam camping mat on top of the airbed before adding bedding. The flocked surface on this Vango airbed offers slightly better thermal properties than plain PVC, but you'll still need proper insulation for cool nights.
