The Fiamma Turbo Kit transforms non-vented rooflights into powered ventilation systems without permanent installation. This 12V fan unit mounts via telescopic hangers that adjust from 36cm to 48cm, fitting rooflight apertures between 40cm x 40cm and 50cm x 70cm (excluding Fiamma 40 x 40 models). Compatible with popular rooflights including Fiamma Vent 50, Omni-Vent, RemiTop 400, Seitz Mini Heki and Seitz Midi Heki, the system comes with both a cigarette lighter cable and a 12Vdc hardwire connection for direct motorhome electrical integration. The 240mm diameter fan delivers a maximum airflow of 7.2 cubic metres per minute whilst drawing between 0.20A and 0.33A depending on speed. Weighing just 1.3kg, the unit must be removed during transit and stored when the vehicle is moving.

How does the Fiamma Turbo Kit work as both a fan and extractor?

The unit functions in both directions by manually reversing the power supply polarity through a simple switch connection. When the polarity is reversed, the fan motor spins in the opposite direction, changing from intake mode (drawing fresh air into the motorhome) to extraction mode (expelling stale air, cooking odours and moisture). This dual functionality makes the Turbo Kit particularly effective when positioned above kitchen areas or sleeping spaces.

The Turbo Kit offers genuine flexibility through its triple power supply options. It runs from the motorhome's 12Vdc electrical system via the supplied hardwire cable, connects to any 12V socket using the cigarette lighter adapter, or operates independently on 8 x D-cell alkaline batteries (LR20 type, not included) providing approximately 80 hours of portable use. Battery operation transforms the unit into a standalone table or hanging fan for awning use, outdoor dining or emergency ventilation when hookup isn't available. Installation requires no cutting or permanent modification to the rooflight, with the telescopic brackets hooking directly onto the rooflight frame when the vent is open and the vehicle is stationary. The fixing bracket wheelbase should be positioned at 31cm for optimal stability, though alternative mounting using the sliding hooks directly on the rooflight frame is also supported.

Please note this does not fit the Fiamma 40x40 Vents. There is not enough space to install due to the trellis and mosquito net in the middle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which rooflights are compatible with the Fiamma Turbo Kit?
The Turbo Kit fits rooflight apertures from 40cm x 40cm up to 50cm x 70cm through its adjustable telescopic hangers that extend from 36cm to 48cm. Compatible models include Fiamma Vent 50, Omni-Vent, RemiTop 400, Dometic Seitz Mini Heki and Seitz Midi Heki. The kit does not work with Fiamma 40 x 40 vents due to the internal trellis and mosquito net configuration, though some owners have modified the installation by positioning the unit to rest on the blind mechanism rather than the standard brackets.
Can the Fiamma Turbo Kit run on batteries instead of 12V power?
Yes, the unit operates on 8 x D-cell alkaline batteries (LR20 type, 1.5V each, not supplied) providing approximately 80 hours of continuous use. Battery operation allows the Turbo Kit to function as a standalone portable fan for awning use, outdoor areas or locations without electrical hookup. When switching between battery and 12Vdc mains operation, batteries must be removed from the housing to prevent damage. The battery compartment is accessed by opening the rear panel of the fan unit.
How do you switch between fan and extractor modes?
The Turbo Kit switches direction by reversing the electrical polarity through a manual switch system on the power supply connection. When connected to the motorhome's 12Vdc installation rather than the cigarette lighter socket, the polarity reversal function becomes available. Reversing the polarity changes the motor rotation direction, allowing the fan to either draw fresh air into the vehicle (intake mode) or expel stale air, moisture and cooking odours (extraction mode). When using the cigarette lighter connection, the unit operates in the default direction only unless you manually swap the plug orientation.
Do you need to remove the Fiamma Turbo Kit when travelling?
Yes, the Turbo Kit must be dismounted and stored whilst the vehicle is in motion. The unit is designed for use only when the vehicle is stationary with the rooflight open. The telescopic hanging system, whilst secure during stationary use, is not rated for the vibrations and movement experienced during travel. Leaving the unit installed whilst driving could compromise stability and potentially damage both the fan and the rooflight frame. The lightweight 1.3kg design makes removal and reinstallation quick, typically taking under a minute once you're familiar with the hanging bracket positioning.
What is the power consumption of the Fiamma Turbo Kit?
The unit draws between 0.20A minimum and 0.33A maximum at 12Vdc, equating to approximately 2.4W to 4W of power consumption. Running the fan overnight for 8 hours at medium speed would consume roughly 2 amp-hours from your leisure battery, making it one of the more efficient motorhome ventilation options. For comparison, this is considerably less than permanently installed powered roof vents which typically draw 1.5A to 3A depending on speed settings. The low current draw means the Turbo Kit can run for extended periods without significantly depleting battery reserves, even on systems without solar charging.
Can the Fiamma Turbo Kit be used as a standalone fan without a rooflight?
Yes, the Turbo Kit functions independently as a table fan or hanging fan when powered by batteries or the cigarette lighter socket. The telescopic hangers that normally attach to a rooflight frame can instead suspend the unit from awning poles, gazebo frames or overhead storage rails. Some users place the unit on a flat surface using the base of the telescopic brackets as a stand, though this requires careful positioning to prevent tipping. This portable functionality makes the Turbo Kit useful for outdoor dining areas, awnings or as supplementary ventilation in storage areas and garages when the motorhome is parked.
What maintenance does the Fiamma Turbo Kit require?
Regular maintenance involves keeping the mesh screen clean to maintain maximum airflow efficiency and occasionally lubricating the sliding hooks with silicone spray if they become stiff during installation or removal. Never use aggressive cleaning products, glass cleaners, all-purpose cleaners, abrasive materials, alcohol-based detergents, solvents or corrosive liquids on any part of the unit as these can damage the housing and internal components. Clean the fan blades and housing with a soft damp cloth and mild soap solution. Check the telescopic hangers periodically for secure operation and ensure the fixing brackets remain tight if using the screw-mount installation method.
