The Fiamma Aqua 8 is a 12V self-priming water pump built for caravans, motorhomes, and campervans. It delivers a maximum flow rate of 7 or 10 litres per minute and operates at 3.4 amps, making it well-suited to 12V leisure battery systems. The pump runs automatically, starting and stopping via an integrated pressure switch set at 1.5 bar (21psi) whenever a tap, shower, or water heater is opened or closed. It sits on Fiamma's anti-vibration Silent Plate base, which significantly reduces operational noise and vibration transfer to the vehicle structure. The built-in stainless steel filter on the inlet side keeps impurities out of the system and is simple to clean. This is the 10 litre per minute version, carrying Fiamma part number 01216B01/01216C01, and it comes supplied with both an angled and a straight connector to suit 13mm pipe fittings.

How does the Fiamma Aqua 8 work without priming in a caravan water system?

The Fiamma Aqua 8 is a self-priming diaphragm pump that creates its own suction. It'll draw water vertically over 3 metres without any priming and can be installed horizontally up to 9 metres from the tank outlet. The built-in pressure switch detects the drop in line pressure the moment a tap opens and starts the pump automatically, then cuts out when the tap closes.

One of the more practical features of the Aqua 8 is its ability to run dry without damage, which means it won't be harmed if the water tank runs out while the system is active. The pump is resistant to limescale deposits and oxidation, which matters if you're touring areas with hard water. For best performance, Fiamma recommends installing the A20 expansion tank within the first metre of the system. Doing so smooths out pressure fluctuations and reduces the frequency of the pump cycling on and off, which in turn cuts noise and extends pump life. The recommended mounting position is with the motor on top and the pump head pointing downwards, which protects the motor from any internal water ingress. The pump weighs 1.5kg and requires a dedicated circuit using a minimum 1.5mm² (16AWG) cable protected by a 7.5A fuse.

Caravanners replacing an older Fiamma Super Flow pump will find the Aqua 8 a direct fit, as the connectors are identical. The pump is also a common factory-fitted unit in many European motorhomes, so it's a frequent like-for-like replacement. At 65-70dB during operation, it's noticeably quieter than older diaphragm pump designs, and the Silent Plate base deals with most of the vibration that would otherwise transmit through the floor or furniture. The Aqua 8 is approved for contact with drinking water and carries CE certification in compliance with the 2014/30/EU EMC Directive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the flow rate and pressure of the Fiamma Aqua 8 12V 10L pump?

The Fiamma Aqua 8 10L model (part number 01216B01) delivers a maximum flow rate of 10 litres per minute at 0 bar. The integrated pressure switch is set at 1.5 bar, which is equivalent to 21psi. Current draw is 3.4 amps at 12V. This is a separate variant from the 7 litre per minute model (01216C01), so it's worth confirming the flow rate you need before ordering.

Is the Fiamma Aqua 8 a direct replacement for the older Fiamma Super Flow pump?

Yes. The Fiamma Aqua 8 uses the same inlet and outlet connectors as the older Super Flow pump, making it a direct replacement in most installations. The Aqua 8 is supplied with both an angled and a straight connector to suit 13mm pipe fittings, which covers the connection options used on the Super Flow.

Can the Fiamma Aqua 8 run dry without being damaged?

Yes. The Fiamma Aqua 8 is designed to run dry without sustaining damage to the pump mechanism. This is particularly useful in a caravan or motorhome context where the water tank may empty without warning. The pump is also resistant to limescale deposits and oxidation, which helps maintain reliability across extended use.

Does the Fiamma Aqua 8 need priming before use?

No. The Aqua 8 is a self-priming pump and will draw water vertically over 3 metres without any priming. It can also be installed horizontally up to 9 metres from the tank outlet. This makes it straightforward to install in locations where the pump sits above the water tank, which is common in many caravan and motorhome layouts.

What pipe size does the Fiamma Aqua 8 connect to?

The Fiamma Aqua 8 is supplied with both an angled and a straight connector, both designed to suit 13mm bore pipe fittings, which is the standard size used in most caravan and motorhome fresh water systems.

What electrical cable and fuse does the Fiamma Aqua 8 require?

Fiamma specifies a minimum cable cross-section of 1.5mm² (16AWG) for the Aqua 8's dedicated circuit. The positive cable should be protected by a 7.5A fuse. The pump draws 3.4 amps at 12V in normal operation. Fiamma recommends connecting to the vehicle's fuse box or terminal board rather than directly to the battery.

What is the recommended mounting position for the Fiamma Aqua 8?

Fiamma recommends mounting the Aqua 8 with the motor on top and the pump head pointing downward. This orientation protects the motor from water ingress in the event of an internal leak. The pump should be fixed to a solid surface to minimise noise and vibration. The anti-vibration Silent Plate base is included as standard and should be used in all installations.

Does the Fiamma Aqua 8 benefit from an expansion tank?

Yes. Fiamma recommends fitting the A20 expansion tank within the first metre of the system. The expansion tank absorbs pressure fluctuations in the pipework, which reduces how frequently the pump cycles on and off. This lowers noise levels, reduces wear on the pressure switch, and generally extends the working life of the pump. It's an optional accessory but one that makes a noticeable difference to system smoothness.
