The Fiamma A20 Expansion Tank is a universal accumulator tank designed for caravan, motorhome, campervan and marine water systems. It installs on the pressurised side of your 12v water pump, between the pump outlet and your taps, and works with all pressure switch diaphragm pumps including Shurflo, Flojet, Whale and Fiamma's own Aqua 8. Measuring 234 x 154 x 98mm and weighing around 300g, it's compact enough to fit into tight spaces. The A20 comes pre-charged at 0.9 bar (13 psi), which is the correct setting for Fiamma pumps with a 1.5 bar pressure switch. For other pump brands, the pre-charge pressure is adjustable via a valve using a standard air compressor or foot pump, up to a maximum of 3 bar. Fiamma recommend installing it within the first metre of your water system's pressurised pipework for best results.

How does the Fiamma A20 stop a caravan water pump from pulsing?

The A20 uses an internal pressurised diaphragm to absorb the pressure spikes created each time your pump cycles on and off. This converts the stop-start surging into a smooth, steady flow of water at consistent pressure. For a caravan or motorhome owner, that means no more pulsating taps, no rattling pipework, and no fluctuating shower temperatures caused by rapid pump cycling.

The tank is supplied with straight and angled 13mm barbed hose connectors plus self-tapping screws for mounting. If your vehicle uses 12mm semi-rigid pipe with push-fit connections, you'll need 1/2" BSP to 12mm push-fit adaptors instead of the supplied barbed fittings. The A20 is made from food-grade safe materials and is fully dismantlable for diaphragm inspection or replacement. Fiamma recommend checking the pre-charge value once a year, and the tank should be drained completely if outdoor temperatures are expected to drop below 0 degrees C during winter storage. By reducing how often the pump cycles, the A20 also extends the working life of both your pump and water heater while lowering water and electricity consumption.

Comes with fittings 10MM and 13MM

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Fiamma A20 Expansion Tank do?
The Fiamma A20 is an accumulator tank that absorbs the pressure spikes created when a 12v diaphragm water pump cycles on and off. It uses an internal pressurised diaphragm to convert pulsating water flow into a smooth, consistent stream at even pressure. This stops taps from surging, reduces pipework rattle, and prevents fluctuating shower temperatures caused by rapid pump cycling.
Which water pumps is the Fiamma A20 compatible with?
The A20 is a universal accumulator tank compatible with all pressure switch diaphragm pumps used in caravans, motorhomes, campervans and boats. This includes Fiamma Aqua 8, Shurflo Trail King, Flojet, Whale and all other brands of 12v pressure switch pump. It comes pre-charged at 0.9 bar for Fiamma pumps with a 1.5 bar pressure switch, and the pressure is adjustable for other pump brands.
Where should the Fiamma A20 be installed in the water system?
Fiamma's installation manual states the A20 should be fitted within the first metre of pressurised pipework, downstream of the water pump and before the taps. It installs inline on the pressure side of the system. The tank can be mounted in any position, though Fiamma recommend positioning it with the pre-charge valve facing upward, as this makes it easier to check the pressure and drain the water during servicing.
What fittings are supplied with the Fiamma A20?
The A20 comes with straight and angled 13mm barbed hose connectors for flexible pipe, plus self-tapping screws for mounting. If your caravan or motorhome uses 12mm semi-rigid push-fit pipe rather than flexible hose, you will need two 1/2 inch BSP female to 12mm push-fit adaptors to connect the tank. These adaptors screw onto the A20's ports in place of the barbed fittings.
How do I adjust the pre-charge pressure on the Fiamma A20?
The A20 has a valve that accepts a standard air compressor or foot pump. It arrives pre-charged at 0.9 bar (13 psi), which is the correct setting for Fiamma pumps with a 1.5 bar pressure switch. For other pump brands, Fiamma recommend setting the pre-charge to match the start pressure of your pump, up to a maximum of 3 bar. You should check the pre-charge value once a year and before initial installation.
What are the dimensions and weight of the Fiamma A20?
The Fiamma A20 measures 234 x 154 x 98mm with its socket fittings attached (body dimensions are 234 x 110 x 98mm). It weighs approximately 300g. The outlet diameter is 12mm. It's a compact unit, roughly the size of a 750ml bottle of water, making it straightforward to fit into the limited space around most caravan and motorhome water pump installations.
Does the Fiamma A20 need winterising?
Yes. Fiamma's installation instructions state that if outdoor temperatures are expected to fall below 0 degrees Celsius during winter storage, you must drain the entire plumbing system including the A20 expansion tank. Water left inside the tank in freezing conditions could damage the internal diaphragm and the tank body.
Can the diaphragm inside the Fiamma A20 be replaced?
Yes. The A20 is designed to be fully dismantled for diaphragm inspection and servicing. If the diaphragm becomes worn or damaged over time, it can be accessed by separating the two halves of the tank body. This is a straightforward maintenance task that doesn't require specialist tools.

Ideal Replacement Or Retro Fit Pressure Vessel For Motorhome Sand Caravans

by Peter T. (24 Jul 2017)
5 star review(5/5)
The I tem arrived promptly and is very simple to fit, we had bought it to replace the original that had failed and it is a direct replacement. Although the vessel was supposed to be pre - pressurised, ours wasn't, but it is easy to do with any car foot pump. It will not make the pump run silently, but it does stop surging at the taps.

No only did this cure my spurting taps in the motorhome, but the pump is so quiet now its amazing.
For 12mm rigid pipe connection you need to purchase "Push Fit Female Adaptor - 12mm - 1/2" BSP female" these screw on in place of the flexible hose connectors making simple secure installation.

Save Water

I had been having problems with my motorhome water pump cycling on and off continually and suffering air-locks.
Since the easy installation of the expansion tank I have no problems and am able to open the taps to any state of flow, just a trickle or full on without the pump switching on-off,on-off continually.Consequently I have noticed a reduction in water use which is another bonus.

Accumulator. Not Acumalator.

Just the job. Works fine. This is a Fiamma A20 Universal Expansion Tank. It is an accumulator tank. There is no such thing as an acumalator, a term used in the description.

Silence At Last(well Almost)

by Oldg (09 Oct 2015)

I am writing this review to brighten up the lives of people suffering from "diaphragm pump syndrome"

My problem was a Swift Charisma 220 with Flojet on board pump .Switch on the tap and the pump didn't start immediately and water dribbled out then the pump woke up and ran for a while but turn down the flow and pump goes into spasm none return valve clacks away a real noisy nightmare.
So what has this to do with the Fiamma expansion tank ,be patient . First the flojet pump IS adjustable a cross head screw under the base/switch cover I had to turn clockwise 3/4 of a turn which reduced spasms and some reasonable results if the tap was turned down to a trickle . A lot more civilised but pulses from the pump cause pipe work to rattle, still not brilliant.
Having carried out the pump adjustment I fitted the expansion tank about 300mm down stream of the pump, pressure side of course now the tank is supplied with flexible barbed pipe connectors but most vans use 12mm semi rigid pipe with push fit connections so what you need is 2 off 1/2" bsp to 12mm push fit connectors. The pipe itself can be cut with a Stanley knife with a nice new blade no special kit needed. Do not use a hacksaw the debris from the cut will probably foul the water heater or none return valve for same which stops warm water migrating back to the cold feed. So that's it and yes no more pulsing and pump cycles in a civilised manner .Job done!

Well Priced And Effective

I purchased this Fiamma Expansion tank to resolve a stop/start oscillation with my Shurflo pump in my motorhome. This effect started when I replaced the original (failed) Italian pump with the Shurflo. This item is about half the price of the similar Shurflo accumulator/ expansion tank - and I am very pleased with the performance since fitting it - would recommend to others. It has completely stopped the stop/start cycling and allows you to draw water as slowly as you want. A couple of observations - the unit comes with hose type connectors only suitable for flexible (hose) pipe. If you have 12mm semi flexible pipe as I have, you should also order two "Push Fit Female Adaptor - 12mm - 1/2" BSP female" parts to link it up. I put a stop end in one side of the unit, and connected the other side to my cold pump output with a 12mm pushfit T piece. All parts are available from Leisureshop Direct
