The Waeco WCR 80 is a 75 litre compressor fridge freezer built for campervans, motorhomes, caravans and boats. It runs on 12V or 24V DC and fits into cabinetry as a flush-mounted, under-counter unit. Inside you get a 6.6 litre freezer compartment, adjustable shelves, a bottle holder, door trays, crisper drawers and an integrated LED light bar. Waeco designed the interior to feel like a domestic fridge in a compact leisure format, so organising food for a longer trip is easy.

How much power does the Waeco WCR 80 draw from a leisure battery?

Waeco rates the WCR 80 at 0.36 kWh per 24 hours, tested to IEC 62552, with an average power input of 50 watts on a 12V or 24V supply. The compressor cycles on and off to hold temperature, so daily consumption stays low enough for leisure battery and solar setups.

Two operating modes let you choose between Performance for daytime cooling output and Quiet for reduced noise overnight, with the setting adjusted on a control panel inside the cabinet. Cooling performance covers -12°C to +7°C, so the freezer compartment handles frozen food while the crispers keep fruit and vegetables fresh. R600a refrigerant gives the unit an extremely low Global Warming Potential, and the ST climate class covers warm ambient conditions. Van converters, self-builders and owners upgrading older units choose compressor cooling for its consistent performance in warm weather and its efficiency on battery power.

Fitting is straightforward for a build-in unit of this size. The cabinet measures 635mm high, 475mm wide and 537mm deep, and the fridge weighs 16.7kg, which keeps payload impact modest in a campervan or motorhome conversion. The matte black door panel is replaceable, so you match the front to your interior cabinetry rather than working around a fixed finish. A dual-function door lock secures the door on the move and doubles as a vent when the fridge is switched off between trips, which keeps the interior fresh through winter storage. The WCR 80 carries manufacturer part number 9630001979 and sits between the WCR 60 and WCR 150 in Waeco's WCR compressor fridge range.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much power does the Waeco WCR 80 compressor fridge use?
Waeco rates the WCR 80 at 0.36 kWh per 24 hours, tested according to IEC 62552, with an average power input of 50 watts. The fridge runs on 12V or 24V DC and its compressor cycles on and off to hold the set temperature, so it draws power intermittently rather than continuously.
Will the Waeco WCR 80 run from a leisure battery and solar panels?
Yes. Daily energy consumption of 0.36 kWh places the WCR 80 within reach of a typical leisure battery and solar panel setup. Compressor fridges are the standard choice for off-grid touring because they run efficiently on 12V DC, and pairing the WCR 80 with a suitably sized battery bank and solar array keeps it running between hook-ups.
Does the Waeco WCR 80 have a freezer compartment?
Yes. The WCR 80 includes a 6.6 litre freezer compartment within its 75 litre total capacity. Cooling performance covers -12°C to +7°C, so frozen food, ice and fresh provisions all store in one unit without needing a separate cool box.
What size is the Waeco WCR 80 and how much does it weigh?
The WCR 80 measures 635mm high, 475mm wide and 537mm deep, and weighs 16.7kg. It is a flush-mounted, build-in unit made to sit inside campervan or motorhome cabinetry, and its height suits under-counter kitchen pods and galley units in van conversions.
What is the difference between Performance and Quiet mode on the WCR 80?
Performance mode prioritises cooling output during the day, while Quiet mode reduces running noise overnight. Both modes are selected on the control panel inside the cabinet, which also adjusts the cooling level of the fridge.
Is the door panel on the Waeco WCR 80 replaceable?
Yes. The WCR 80 comes with a matte black door panel as standard, and this panel swaps out for a custom front to match the surrounding cabinetry. Van builders often fit a cut piece of laminate or veneer so the fridge blends into the kitchen unit.
Does a compressor fridge like the WCR 80 need to be level to work?
No. Compressor cooling keeps working on sloping pitches and uneven ground, which sets it apart from 3-way absorption fridges. Absorption models need the vehicle close to level to cool efficiently, while the WCR 80 carries on cooling at the uneven pitches found at many campsites and wild camping spots.
What does the dual-function door lock on the WCR 80 do?
The door lock secures the door while travelling and also serves as a vent position for the off-season. Setting the lock to vent lets air circulate inside the fridge when it is switched off in storage, which stops stale odours and moisture building up between trips.
