The Dometic DPS-R 135 (9620013450) is a 135 W mains adaptor for 12/24 V DC compressor fridges, supplied with a UK three-pin plug. It's wired between the leisure battery and the fridge, and runs the fridge from 100-240 V AC whenever mains is present. Pull the plug or lose the hook-up and the fridge goes back onto battery power by itself, with no changeover switch to remember. Dometic built it for the NRX range of built-in compressor fridges, and it suits any Dometic 12/24 V DC fridge rated up to 135 W. It's a straightforward upgrade for campervan conversions, motorhomes and boats with a fridge wired for battery power only.

Will the Dometic DPS-R 135 run my 12V compressor fridge on hook-up?

Yes, provided the fridge is rated for 12/24 V DC and draws no more than 135 W. On hook-up, the DPS-R 135 feeds the fridge 27 V DC at up to 5 A while taking a rated 0.64 A from a 240 V supply. Off hook-up, it passes battery power straight through to the fridge.

With mains priority, the fridge stops drawing on your leisure battery the moment you plug in on site. The compressor runs from the hook-up supply, and your charger only has the battery to look after. In mains mode the DPS-R 135 delivers 27 V DC at up to 5 A, so a 12/24 V fridge runs as it would on a 24 V supply. In battery mode the output matches the battery voltage, so 12 V and 24 V systems both work. Dometic rates it at 135 W continuous at 25°C with 88% energy efficiency, and it accepts any supply from 100 to 240 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz.

At 110 x 100 x 32 mm, the adaptor fits in a cupboard or void close to the fridge, and the supplied bracket and two screws hold it in place. The battery feed goes to the DC input, the fridge connects to the DC output, and the three-pin plug goes into a 230 V socket in the vehicle. In the box you get the adaptor, DC cable, UK mains plug, mounting bracket, screws and an installation manual with a cable sizing chart for 12 V and 24 V runs. It's rated to operate between -10°C and +43°C, and it works with a new NRX install or an existing fridge, with no modification to the fridge itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which fridges work with the Dometic DPS-R 135 mains adaptor?
The DPS-R 135 suits Dometic compressor fridges with a 12/24 V DC rating and a power draw of up to 135 W. Dometic designed it around the NRX range, including the DC-only NRX C models, and specifies it for compressor fridges with a 12/24 V rated voltage. Its mains output is 27 V DC, so check the fridge's rating plate lists 24 V operation before wiring it in.
How does the DPS-R 135 switch between hook-up and battery power?
The adaptor has a built-in mains priority circuit. When it detects a 100-240 V AC supply, it moves the fridge from battery to mains automatically. When the supply drops out or you unplug the hook-up, it returns the fridge to 12/24 V battery operation. There's no switch to operate and no leads to swap, and the fridge keeps running through the changeover.
Why does the Dometic DPS-R 135 output 27 V on mains power?
In mains mode the DPS-R 135 supplies 27 V DC at up to 5 A, which gives its 135 W continuous rating at 25°C. Dual-voltage 12/24 V compressor fridges run on this as a 24 V supply. In battery mode the adaptor passes the battery voltage through unchanged, so the fridge receives 12 V or 24 V to match your system.
How much current does the DPS-R 135 take from a campsite hook-up?
Dometic rates the AC input current at 0.64 A on a 240 V supply and 1.53 A on a 100 V supply, at 88% energy efficiency. On a 16 A UK hook-up or a 6 A pitch in Europe, the adaptor's rated draw stays under 1 A. It accepts any supply from 100 to 240 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz.
How is the Dometic DPS-R 135 wired into a campervan or motorhome?
The adaptor sits between the battery supply and the fridge. The battery feed connects to the DC input, the fridge connects to the DC output, and the UK three-pin plug goes into a 230 V socket in the vehicle. Keep the polarity correct, size the DC cables using the chart in Dometic's manual for your cable length and system voltage, and replace any blown fuse with one of the same rating.
Where should the DPS-R 135 be mounted?
Fit it inside the vehicle in a dry position, away from direct sunlight, heaters and ovens, using the supplied mounting bracket and two screws. Dometic rates it for operation between -10°C and +43°C. The housing measures 110 x 100 x 32 mm, so it fits in a cupboard or alongside the fridge.
Does the DPS-R 135 charge the leisure battery?
The DPS-R 135 is a dedicated fridge power supply. Battery charging stays with your vehicle's mains charger or solar controller, and while the hook-up is live, the charger no longer has to carry the fridge's load. Off hook-up, the fridge draws from the battery through the adaptor as normal.
Does the DPS-R 135 replace the Dometic CoolPower MPS 35?
UK Dometic dealers list the DPS-R 135 as the newer version of the discontinued CoolPower MPS 35 and EPS 100 mains adaptors. It uses the same mains priority principle in a smaller housing, measuring 110 x 100 x 32 mm against the MPS 35's 160 x 115 x 55 mm, and handles fridges drawing up to 135 W.
