Product Description

Clean Tabs Aqua Mega Tabs offer a straightforward solution for maintaining fresh drinking water in caravans, motorhomes and campervans. Each rapid-dissolving effervescent tablet treats up to 225 litres of stored water, making this pack of 20 suitable for extended trips or seasonal storage. The formulation uses dichloroisocyanurate as an organic chlorine donor, which provides superior disinfection compared to standard chlorine treatments you might find in household bleach or other purification methods.

These tablets are individually foil-wrapped to maintain their effectiveness for five years or longer when stored properly. The formulation kills a wide range of waterborne threats including bacteria, spores, cysts, algae, fungi, protozoa and viruses. Touring caravanners and motorhomers typically use these when filling their fresh water tanks, particularly when sourcing water from campsite taps or filling points where quality can vary. The tablets are manufactured to strict specifications to deliver consistent dosing, which matters when you're relying on treated water for drinking, cooking and washing.

One consideration is that while Mega Tabs keep your water fresh, they don't clean the tank itself. Your water system still needs periodic deep cleaning with a dedicated tank cleaner like Puriclean to remove biofilm and sediment buildup. The tablets work best in water that's already reasonably clear, so they're not designed for purifying heavily contaminated or murky water sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many litres does each Clean Tabs Mega Tab treat?

Each Mega Tab purifies 225 litres of stored water. For a typical caravan fresh water tank holding 40-50 litres, you would use a quarter of a tablet. Motorhomes with larger 100-litre tanks would need half a tablet per fill.

What is dichloroisocyanurate and why is it used in these tablets?

Dichloroisocyanurate is an organic chlorine donor that releases chlorine slowly and consistently over time. It offers superior disinfection compared to sodium hypochlorite (household bleach) because it maintains stable chlorine levels in stored water for longer periods. This makes it ideal for caravan and motorhome fresh water tanks where water sits unused for days or weeks.

How long do Clean Tabs Mega Tabs last when stored?

The tablets are foil-wrapped individually to remain stable for five years or longer when stored in cool, dry conditions. The foil packaging prevents moisture and air from degrading the active chlorine compound. Once opened, a tablet should be used immediately.

Do Mega Tabs clean the water tank or just purify the water?

Mega Tabs purify the water itself by killing bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms. They do not clean biofilm, sediment or limescale buildup from tank surfaces. Your fresh water tank needs periodic deep cleaning with a dedicated tank cleaning product like Puriclean to remove accumulated deposits and ensure the purification tablets work effectively.

What waterborne pathogens do Clean Tabs Mega Tabs kill?

Mega Tabs kill bacteria including Salmonella typhi, Vibrio cholerae, Shigella sonnei, Streptococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli. They also eliminate spores, cysts, algae, fungi, protozoa and viruses. The formulation is particularly effective against Entamoeba histolytica, which causes amoebic dysentery.

Can you use Clean Tabs in drinking water immediately after adding them?

The tablets are rapid-dissolving but you should allow at least 30 minutes after dosing before using the water for drinking or cooking. This contact time allows the chlorine compound to work through the water volume and kill microorganisms effectively. Some caravanners prefer to dose their tanks the night before departure.

How do Clean Tabs Mega Tabs compare to Milton sterilising tablets?

Clean Tabs Mega Tabs are specifically formulated for stored water in caravans and motorhomes, with each tablet treating 225 litres compared to Milton tablets which treat much smaller volumes. Mega Tabs use dichloroisocyanurate for longer-lasting disinfection, while Milton tablets use sodium dichloroisocyanurate at different concentrations designed for baby equipment sterilisation rather than bulk water storage.

Will these tablets affect the taste of drinking water?

When dosed correctly, Mega Tabs leave minimal chlorine taste in treated water. The taste is less noticeable than household bleach methods because the chlorine release is controlled and gradual. If you detect a strong chlorine taste, you may have overdosed the tank. Some users run a small amount of treated water through taps to waste before first use to reduce any initial taste.
