London is "perennially popular"

Posted by Greg Thoughton

Owners of Whale caravan taps have been urged to take a weekend to enjoy the delights that London has to offer.

Guy Dimond, food and drink editor of Time Out London, said that the capital city is still immensely popular with tourists, especially for the restaurant and bar industry.

He explained that due to its popularity, it has been remarkably resistant to the recession.

"There are two trends which have contributed towards affordable eating. One of them is the trend towards small plate menus. Rather than having big portions that cost £15 to £20 in the West End, there are lots of restaurants doing [smaller] tapas-sized portions," Mr Dimond said.

He claimed that this is a popular approach as many people going to the West End do not want a full meal, they just need something to keep them going.

According to research by Zagats, people eating out in London are going to more restaurants but are also paying more for each meal.
