Be ready for the bad weather forecast!!

Gentle Reminder to Winterize your Caravan!

With the forecast of freezing weather on its way from Canada, those of you that have not winterized your caravan, it is not too late!

Drain all the water from the system

To be safe your priority is to make sure that all water is removed from your caravan’s fresh and waste water systems, as if left in the pipes this water could freeze and expand when the temperature drops below zero, causing the pipes to burst. Set each of the taps in the caravan to the open position and open up any exterior water taps as well, to make certain all water drains out of the caravan. Once the water is sufficiently drained you could pour some antifreeze down the kitchen and bathroom plugholes to ensure any residual water in the U-Bends does not freeze.

Another accessory to drain is the portable toilet. Drain and clean the toilet with lots of fresh water and then drain completely. It is advisable to spray the seal with a maintenance spray such as Thetford Seal Lubricant to avoid corrosion and sticky during the cold spell.

Try to avoid damp damage

Take the soft furnishings in your van and either store them in your house or stand them in the middle of the caravan so that air can circulate to prevent mould forming. Leave cupboard doors and drawers slightly open to again allow circulation of air. Finally it is very important you put some dehumidifier such as Humidex Moisture Trap

Protect from the elements

Try to store your caravan in a protected space which will provide protection against high winds or the worst of the elements. Use a breathable caravan cover such as an Aluminumised Caravan Cover to provide all weather protection, this is an essential caravan accessory during the winter months.

If you look after your caravan during any dreadful weather that might be on its way, you will be able to jump into your second home and go off on your first trip of 2014 with no problems! Spring is not far away!!!!
