British tourism recovery in full swing

Posted by Greg Throughton

Caravan refrigeration owners planning a caravan holiday in 2011 should expect sites to be busier than normal as VisitBritain has predicted that 300,000 more visitors will come to the UK in 2011.

The number of visitors to the UK is expected to reach 30 million in 2011, a rise of one per cent, indicating that confidence among overseas travellers is continuing to rise despite economic uncertainty.

Reasons for the expected increase in tourist numbers include the excitement surrounding the upcoming royal wedding, the Queen's diamond jubilee and the London Olympics and Paralympic Games in 2012.

Sandie Dawe, chief executive of VisitBritain, said: "We are looking forward to an exciting and challenging 2011. The eyes of the world will be on Britain as we host the royal wedding and momentum will build as we near the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Britain's Tourist Board is planning to roll out a new marketing campaign which will showcase the events on offer in the UK to try and attract tourists looking to travel abroad in the near future.

The AA recently advised those looking to get away this Christmas to make vehicle checks and plan a route before setting off as wintery weather is likely to affect road conditions.
