Brussels is ideal for beer-lovers

Posted by Linda Davidson

People with Reich caravan taps considering a break should try the wide variety of beer on offer in Brussels.

Joel Percheur, owner of the Delirium Cafe in Brussels, said that the record-breaking bar has been open since 1973 and offers customers a huge array of beers.

In the heart of the Free town, the Ilot Sacre and 100m away from the Grande Place in Brussels is the Delirium Cafe. Recent expansion has seen it take over a whole street and in 2004, it won the world record for the biggest variety of beers.

"We have more than 2,000 beers on the inventory. We have decided to shift from beers of the world to work with microbreweries. We are looking for a company in the US who will work for us, buying from all the microbreweries, as we are a small country and can't therefore buy in bulk," Mr Percheur explained.

He said that visitors to Brussels can enjoy the new trend for vintage Belgian beers, but added that it is just the tip of the iceberg.
