Caravan Club names towcar of the year

Posted by Freddy Morton

Caravan taps owners and caravan enthusiasts will be interested to hear that the Caravan Club has revealed the winners of its 28th Towcar of the Year awards.

The Skoda Superb Estate Elegance 2.0 TDi CR took the top spot in its price class and went on to be named the overall winner by a panel of ten judges.

It claimed the award, for the third time in the last seven years, due to its superb performance in a number of tests at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire.

The competition attracted 35 entrants from 19 different car manufacturers with vehicles being judged on acceleration, braking, handling and the ability to cope with demanding hill starts, to help caravan taps owners decide which cars are best for towing caravans.

John Bower, head of aftersales for Skoda UK, said: "Receiving an award from the caravan industry experts is not only an excellent achievement but a real testament to the quality of the model."

The award has continued a winning streak for the Skoda Superb as it was named Top Gear's Best Luxury Car of the Year, Auto Express' Best Estate Car 2010 and the Private Hire Vehicle of the Year at the professional Drivers awards.
