Caravan stays could be boosted by air passenger duty

Posted by Greg Throughton

Caravan sites could see an increase in visitor numbers as a result of the forthcoming rise in air passenger duty.

With technology such as caravan water heaters making vacations in tourers and static caravans even more comfortable, a trip to a UK seaside resort could be just the tonic for frustrated Brits.

UKinbound recently noted that the rise in air passenger duty is likely to have a negative impact on the British tourism industry.

Marketing and communications manager Ian Dulson explained that Brits are being put off flying abroad, while foreign tourists are not keen to visit as they know they will have a bill to pay on exit.

A flight from London to Germany is likely to cost around £11 or £12 more than the same trip from France, he said.

"The main thing that's really hurting us, especially in terms of people coming here or travelling further abroad, is passenger duty," Mr Dulson stated. "In effect, it's like a tourism tax."

However, while firms relying on international travel may be struggling, those offering caravan holidays in the UK could benefit from the controversial tax.
