Caravanners urged to rediscover old France

Posted by Freddy Morton

The traditional image of rural France still exists and caravan taps owners may be best placed to enjoy it.

Travel writer James Ashford, writing for the Reading Post, said that modern Anglo-Saxon culture has destroyed some of the old tradition's of France's larger towns and cities but tourists can still experience them in lesser-known corners.

He advised caravanners to take the ferry to old ports like Cherbourg and St Malo to begin a truly authentic French holiday.

Mr Ashford recommended steering clear of the main roads and taking some of the lesser-known routes instead to discover some of the hidden gems that you can enjoy at your leisure.

"It may take a little longer but you will drive along elegant tree-lined avenues and through the little towns and villages and the fields and vineyards which make rural France such a delight," he said.

He added that the secret to finding the authentic French experience is not to look further afield but to slow right down and actually travel less.

Travel writer Fred Mawer, in an article for the Daily Telegraph, also recommended taking a trip to France as it offers some of the best caravan sites in Europe.
