Fuel duty cut announced in Budget

Posted by Greg Throughton

The Budget statement revealed a reduction in fuel duty, Heki caravan rooflights owners have been told.

Motorists and caravanners across the country are likely to be delighted by the chancellor George Osborne's decision to delay a proposed 5p-a-litre increase in fuel duty until next year and instead cut the tax by 1p per litre.

The chancellor said that families and small businesses had been heavily affected by the recent rise in fuel prices and this step aimed to go some way towards alleviating some of that burden.

He has done so by introducing a "Fair fuel stabiliser" which will see taxes paid by North Sea Oil companies increase from 20p to 32p a litre.

Edmund King, president of the AA, said that his company 'applauded' the decision.

"This action has probably stopped a 'summer of discontent' and is a common-sense move. Any increase in duty would have bled many drivers on low incomes dry so this action offers short-term first aid," he added.
