Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 'increases tourism in Stockholm'

Posted by Linda Davidson

Holidaymakers with a Truma caravan water heater may be interested in seeing different parts of Europe and could find what they are looking for in Stockholm.

According to Lonely Planet, the Swedish city has become a hotspot for tourists who have visited after seeing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.

Such entertainments are having a knock-on effect on tourism, the magazine has stated, especially with the release of the Hollywood remake directed by David Fincher who also made Fight Club and The Social Network.

Lonely Planet contributor Tom Hall said: "When you're thinking about making recommendations for a certain year, obviously topicality is very high on the agenda."

He added that the publicity and excitement generated by a place such as Stockholm makes visiting it more appealing, especially if people are fans of the films.

Mr Hall also mentioned that Hvar in Croatia is a popular European destination of late.

Fincher's adaptation of Stieg Larsson's bestseller opened in UK cinemas on December 26th 2011 and a sequel, The Girl Who Played with Fire, is expected to be made soon.
