Holidaymakers 'astounded' with UK offerings

Posted by Greg Throughton

Britons with motorhomes and Comet caravan taps could be in an excellent position to take advantage of the UK's tourism market, which British Destinations has suggested is in for a peak year in 2012.

Peter Hampson, chief executive of domestic tourism expert British Destinations, said a "fantastic array" of events - such as the London Olympic Games 2012, the torch procession which accompanies this and the Diamond Jubilee - have all played a role in piquing interest in British tourism.

However, the chief executive was insistent that these events have merely helped shed a light on the impressive breadth and variety of British holiday destinations.

"Those that didn't holiday [in the UK] in the past, are almost universally astounded by what they have found and are very happy with it," claimed Mr Hampson.

There can be a place for both domestic and foreign tourism, he added.

The Camping and Caravanning Club recently argued that caravanning is an important facet of tourism in the UK.
