IAM: Road users need to anticipate hazards

Posted by Freddy Morton

Motorhome owners with Truma caravan water heaters have been advised to stay alert when undertaking long trips in their mobile home this year, as anticipating hazards before they become too much of a problem is a crucial part of driving well.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists' (IAM's) Drive & Survive scheme has issued some advice on identifying hazardous conditions on the road, as part of their ongoing campaign to improve road safety in Britain.

Head of training Simon Elstow said: "Hazards can be anything from a tree branch to a child walking along the pavement. Anticipating what other road users might do is key to being prepared and becoming a safer driver."

He added that there are several ways in which motorists can improve their apprehension of the road around them, encouraging drivers to look out for junction warning signs and be especially conscious of other cars or cyclists when travelling past them.

Co-operative Insurance recently introduced a scheme which awards drivers money off their insurance premiums for driving more safely.
