Karl Pilkington recalls first caravan holiday

Posted by Greg Throughton

Ricky Gervais' sidekick and TV and radio funnyman Karl Pilkington has recalled his first memory of a caravan holiday during an interview with the Independent.

The radio producer told the newspaper that Wales is his favourite British travel spot thanks to his frequent visits as a child.

He also revealed that his earliest recollection was being on holiday at a caravan site in Cornwall with his family.

"It was like a battered old caravan that we couldn't all sit in at one end at once, because it would tip up," he said. "It was like the end of the Italian job."

Pilkington, who is best known for his work with Office star Gervais, added that he loved playing on the beach and in arcades with friends he made on his numerous trips to a caravan site in Porthmadog.

It appears that caravan sites are beginning to be recognised as top-quality holiday destinations, with Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones recently praising a number of parks in the country.
