Keep calm in road emergencies

Posted by Greg Throughton

When motorists hear sirens and see flashing lights many can panic, forgetting what they are supposed to do, people with Waeco caravan fridges have been told.

However, it is essential to keep calm and respond correctly, as panicking and stopping in the wrong place can block up traffic and delay the progress of the emergency vehicle.

Head of training at IAM Drive & Survive Simon Elstow said that drivers should look for somewhere safe to pull over, however, he said that pulling onto kerbs, pavements and verges should be avoided as verges can hide hazards while moving onto pavements puts pedestrians at risk.

"Sirens and flashing lights cause many motorists to panic, mainly because drivers are not routinely taught how to respond to them. The trick is to behave calmly, legally, safely and predictably and move out of the way as soon as it is safe to do so," Mr Elmstow said.

Meanwhile, Warranty Direct managing director, Duncan McClure Fisher has said that it is no surprise that suspension components are the most likely MOT repair given the state of the UK's roads.
