Lack of charging posts are holding EVs back

Posted by Freddy Morton

Almost two-thirds of drivers, including those with campervan accessories and items, would be more likely to buy an electric vehicle (EV) if there were more charging points across the UK.

The findings from a study of 1,417 motorists by EV infrastructure provider Elektromotive showed that only 7.8 per cent of people would not be more inclined to buy an EV as a result of a wider availability of charging posts.

Calvey Taylor-Haw, managing director of Elektromotive, said: "The development of electric vehicles has come on leaps and bounds in recent years, but many consumers are understandably concerned that if they buy a new EV, they might not be able to easily charge it when away from home or the workplace."

He said that it is clear more needs to be done to change the charging infrastructures which are so essential to the mainstream acceptance of EVs.

Meanwhile, studies are being undertaken at the Warwick Manufacturing Group and Warwick University to identify the best sound to add to quiet electric cars.
