More new vehicles are being sold, figures show

Posted by Greg Throughton

Drivers and owners of Truma caravan water heaters and devices for your campervan may like to buy a new vehicle with an October registration plate, as the market sees a rise in sales.

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that registration plates for new vehicles exceeded expectations and have risen by 2.6 per cent to 134,944 units.

Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, said the growth showed a significant boost in the marketplace after a more difficult first ten months of the year, when new registrations were down by 4.5 per cent at 1,688,038 units.

He commented: "Vehicle manufacturers and their dealer networks are working hard to offer consumers value for money through improved fuel efficiency, low running costs and innovative finance."

Market conditions are expected to remain challenging, according to Mr Everitt, but he also suggested that the latest increase is a promising sign.

The SMMT supports and promotes the business of the automotive industry and acts as a watchdog for possible consumer issues.
