My caravan only leaks when it is raining!

Water ingress through window seals will become more likely as the window rubber gets older. For many years caravan manufacturers used the system where the rubber seal was fixed to the wall of the caravan and the top hinged window sealed against it. This seal comes in various widths depending upon the thickness of the wall of the caravan or motor home. A non setting mastic is used to seal the rubber to the wall and quite often the insertion of some extra mastic underneath the rubber will cure a small leak. During the late 1990s a grey caravan window rubber was used by some manufacturers and this suffered dreadfully from the effects of the sun and became soft and sticky and quite often stuck the windows closed. If the rubber has aged and is no longer providing a satisfactory seal then replacement window rubber is available to suit wall thicknesses of 25mm, 27mm and 30mm. On our website under caravan accessories you will find this rubber sold by the metre. It comes with either a large or small bulb to effect the seal and you should measure the bulb on your existing rubber before ordering. Please note that on some motor homes the wall thickness was 35mm and this rubber is available to special order. The rubber is normally stapled to the wooden frame and then a white or grey plastic insert is used to cover the staples.
