Plymouth is the perfect base for family fun

Posted by Greg Throughton

Plymouth is the "perfect base" for a family holiday, people with Dometic caravan fridges have been told.

Duncan Currall, chair of marketing body for the city, Destination Plymouth, said that it is the ideal place from which to explore the rest of Devon and Cornwall.

"Plymouth is surrounded on all sides by stunning natural coast, estuary and moorland environments to explore and enjoy," he explained.

Furthermore, according to figures from STR Global, Plymouth had a strong occupancy growth rate for the first quarter of this year, growing by 13.6 per cent.

Mr Currall said that to the north of the city is the Dartmoor National Park which is ideal for exploring by foot, bike or on horseback.

Alternatively holidaymakers may want to take a boat trip up the Tamar Estuary into Cornwall to discover quaint villagers or visit the National Trust's Saltram Estate, famous for its appearance in the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility.

"Further afield, the stunning beaches of South Devon - Bantham, Bigbury, Salcombe, Blackpool Sands - and the cathedral city of Exeter are less than one hour by car or rail," he added.
