Ramblers urge people to get walking in London

Posted by Greg Throughton

Caravan taps owners taking a break in the London area have been urged to strap on their walking boots and go for a walk in one of London's many parks.

Ramblers, one of the UK's leading walking charities, has set up a new walking programme aimed at getting people more active in London's parks.

The Walk in the Park programme, in conjunction with the Rain Trust, is using resources from Walking for Health to provide its members with ten walks a week which take in some of the capital's most famous parks and green areas.

There is a growing body of evidence demonstrating the value of taking part in walking every day – both for physical and mental well-being.

Tom Franklin, chief executive of the Ramblers, said: "For decades the Ramblers has been helping people to help themselves, by offering more than 28,000 volunteer led walks through our extensive Group structure across Great Britain."

Ramblers' Get Walking Keep Walking programme was recently recognised by the World Health Organisation as a leading example of physical activity promotion to socially disadvantaged groups.
