Regular car health checks are essential

Posted by Freddy Morton

Motorists and owners of Waeco caravan fridges planning a trip this summer have been advised that regular car maintenance is vital.

Waynne Smith, senior partner at TorqueCars.com, said that many people are unaware that their actions may be causing damage to their cars.

"Most cars we see have far too little oil in them. Most drivers wait until the oil light comes on and this can prove fatal. As soon as the oil level drops, you are increasing the wear on the engine and the risk of the oil pump running dry is much higher, especially at high RPM," he suggested.

The period of time to leave between oil checks will vary from car to car from every week to once a month.

Meanwhile, Peter Rodger, chief driving examiner at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said that older drivers plan their journeys better than their younger counterparts as they have the benefit of years of experience.
