Single parents are opting for staycations

Posted by Greg Throughton

There has been a surge in the number of British single parent families opting to staycation and go camping with their Vaillant caravan water heaters rather than take trips abroad, according to singlewithkids.co.uk.

The comments were prompted by a survey of 2011 British respondents commissioned by Monarch Airlines which found that 11 per cent never go on holiday.

Chrissie Lewandowski, co-founder of singlewithkids.co.uk, claimed that the figure was unsurprising as the current economic climate is affecting many people so budget restraints will come into it.

She claimed that single parent families have left holiday plans to the last minute in 2011 as "people haven't been sure of their jobs and the economic situation and whether they can afford it".

"We've also seen a number of people who, instead of going overseas, are stretching their budget over a number of UK trips," Ms Lewandowski added.

A spokeswoman from the National Caravan Council (NCC) said that if people interested in staycations are thinking of buying a caravan, now is definitely the time to get a bargain.
